just for the guys wgo are considering the FO positions:: firstly... for command. nothing official. they are yet to get a command program: also if they stay in line with main fleet requirements, it is 5 yeqrs minimum on local terms, (your take home before tax is average 9000SGD a month, nothing more, no pension; no housing allowance, NOTHING, also due to the low time you fly, average 30 hours a month), sector requirement of 1000 of which only 500 from previous airline will be counted, they do on average 30 a month, so work that out!, and finally if yuo do get it; it will be on local terms, not expat)
my two cents worth

Kinda vague, are you saying they pay $5,581.76 for and average of 30 hours of flying? That would squash the deal if you were going to commute (unless they has one 30 hour trip for you the day you arrived - right!). No housing, no retirement, no "nothing", is a deal breaker for me. BTW, what is a "sector requirement"? Seems like the only way this would work is if you were a local and had a second gig.....

Cheers -

dabrat, I've got an interview with them next month. Please clarify a few items for me. I understand there's no pension, but the material I downloaded from siacargo.com claims there's a housing allowance of up to S$3,000 if married. Also, what is the sector requirement? Finally, could you clarify your last statement, "and if you do get it, it will be on local terms, not expat." Thanks.

I just flew with a former SIA mainline First Officer. He was there for 11 years ( including time as a cadet ). He said he was between 10 months and three years away from upgrade. The time frame was vague because he is not Singaporean.

1000 Sectors means 1000 flights. I would be sure to check if that is total or just as Pilot Flying, but I think it is total. Local terms most probably means no housing allowance or other allowances that expats traditionally receive.

You can get hired as a FO on expat terms and then get upgraded and go to local terms.

Local terms means no housing allowance, no education allowance, but you do get CPF.

There is some a way someone with prior experience can join as a FO and do 500 sectors and get selected for command. However, it's up to the CAAS. If you have lots of rseat time in 737/320/757/747 you should have no problem.

Sorry to change subject: ANA hiring in the 742, approximately two year upgrade in the -400, initially based in New York, starting pay around 10K.

Guys, thanks for all the info. Phil, so it sounds like there is an opportunity to upgrade, just that it's at the discretion of the CAAS? Is this their FAA?

Default Command prospects at SIA Cargo

Hi Phil

You're a very handy guy to have around!

So to clarify what you were saying about command prospects: I've got 5,000 hours of which 3,000 are on B737, 500 as Captain. Does this mean that at the discretion of the CAAS I could be up for a command after 500 sectors?

How long might 500 sectors take?

cheers
