If your profile is correct and you are currently a CRJ F.O. then it will be an uphill battle as the competition is more qualified. Still it's worth a shot. Many of the carriers mentioned require time on type as PIC or SIC. Some do not.

EK and EY are really only hiring guys with time in Airbus or Boeing products. Qatar Airways may be your best chance in the Middle East.

Talk to the pilot agencies about possibilites in Japan for someone with your experience. The Japanese have hired less experienced pilots in the past so it's possible they might still be doing so.

Cathay is worth a look long term, but they are currently not hiring. You would possible qualify for entry as a Second Officer.

Rumors on the line at CX is that future SO hiring will be from former cadets only (local and international cadets). On top of that rumors are that we may not hire FOs again until all of the current SOs are upgraded. This is due to a labor court ruling that came down in favor of the SOs that filed the petition. The company has appealed the ruling so standby for further.

All that said, I believe that we will need to hire pilots towards the end of the year just based on scheduled aircraft deliveries and the fact that we are now pulling stored freighters out of the desert. We also keep hearing about additional services to existing destinations as well as new destinations (Jeddah, Milan, etc)

Good Luck.

To add to your post, I have a few buds awaiting class that just got an email from recruiting. The last BOP shows POSSIBLE hiring of DEFOs in 2012 but they were told to stand by for further updates.

CX tends to be overly conservative when looking at future staffing levels so I wouldn't be surprised to see some movement in early 2011. Plus if Oneworld does indeed lose JAL then we may be able to take some advantage to grow since we will be the only Asian carrier left in the alliance. That is of course only my personal opinion.

A lesson to be learned by many is do not procrastinate at all when the door opens. One of the guys waiting is in that boat. He interviewed just two weeks after a guy that has been here at CX for over 2 years now. The other guy is in limbo waiting on a class date and wondering if the pool will get drained. Unfortunately, someone will be the last guy in the door and someone will be the first guy left out in the cold. The difference can be a matter of days.

Thanks again to everyone. I am around 1100 to 1200 hours 600 of those are as a 200 FO. I work for Mesaba and we are shrinking and i am getting close to the big f-word. If we don't get planes this summer i will be gone probably around this fall. So i am trying to find out my options. I think i should be able to get to 1500 by the summer. I was afraid that i would be to low of time. If i take a job overseas i would like it to be a decent job not a job like working at colgan or mesa. I also am wondering if i will be able to handle jobs in the middle east, Africa, or the far east because the only place i have been other then the US is Canada so i am worried i might have a culture shock. I might be worrying to much because i am a shelter Midwestern boy.

I don't want to burst your bubble TomCat, but I have 6700tt, 4500 jet pic, and 737 sic time. I was furloughed in January of 2008 and I can't get any of these foreign operations to look at me. Better luck to you.

schone. . . Hong Kong Express just hired some guy's with much less than you (turbo prop time only). Not the first place I'd go, but it's a jet job.

Lion Air is also hiring, but it's also the last place I'd go; terrible money as I understand it. A friend flying NG's in Asia told me about it as he could have gone to the left seat there, but it would have been a pay cut.

Thanks Koru!

I tried emailing HK Express today, we'll see I guess.... Lion Air says they finished the exercise of recruiting ... hmmm....

How are things at GW? Any chance of hiring?

We're definately hiring, but at the moment they want current on qualified on the actual aircraft. Go figure.

Personally, it's no way to hire for the long term as the airline ends up reducing the pool they can choose from considerably. But hey, what do I know.

I doubt Lion will stop for long, if that's what you're interested in. Air Asia is meant to be starting hiring again in a while as well.

Best of luck with it.
