Eh, not really. The company may remain profitable in a downturn, but it'll happen at the expense of the employees who get laid off. That's why Richard Santulli, the founder of Netjets, is no longer working there. He wouldn't lay anyone off in the last downturn, so Buffett fired him, replacing him with David Sokol, who ran one of Buffett's other companies. After he was brought in, Sokol immediately laid off a large portion of the support staff and furloughed 20% of the pilots.

I still think Netjets is the best of the fractional jobs, but that's because of the union contract, not because of Buffett.

XO Jet just filed FRP... they are running out of options. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Request_for_proposal

In fact, if I were current XO, I’d be looking at NetJets unless my plan was to go airline.

Flex is not on par with NJA and with no Union, never will be. Zero protections for pilots, pay, working conditions, etc. pay is better at NetJets hands down, you fly a wealthier portfolio which means more stability for the next downturn in the economy.

NetJets is backed by Warren Buffett. Think... deep pockets if the fit hits the shan economically. A great peace of mind. The folks you fill fly are generally leaders of industry and that’s why they fly the leader to enjoyvall of the benefotsbthatvcome with it... safety, service, schedule and recovery ability when something breaks. The educated Owner knows this... most can afford it.

Additionally, upgrade at NetJets is 4.5 years at the current rate of upgrades. That’s a long wait for those already in the que for 10+ years. It’s not for a new hire.

Ha. Xojet is doing just fine, thank you. Our CEO has a conservative approach. You won’t find many (ok ANY) pilots leaving xo for NJA. There were a couple, but they had recall rights. Lots of people live it at Xojet. Me included.

Except for SWA (so far) how do those downturns do at the airlines?

Not so good.

No Pilot is immune to a lack of business demand.

Na. He had 18+ years in but was under 50, so it was a no-brainer for him.

Is the typical upgrade at NetJets around 4-5 years right now? All i kept hearing for a long time was how it was still out past 10 years....
Thanks!

Upgrade is still north of 10 years (closer to 12). It is coming down a touch, but there are still a ton of 10-12 year guys to get through to get back to single digits.

It's going to go to 15+ years before it starts coming back down.

But for a guy hit d today, they won’t wait that long at the current rate.

It’s trended to 7 and will be increasing to less than 5.

It’ll come down much lower for those hiring on now.

As low as 4-5 years.

The backlog is being chewed through fast.
