Hello, PlaneSense crews...

Just wondering if anyone would care to share about any recent interview experiences with PlaneSense. Is the progression from a phone or Skype interview to an in-person interview in Portsmouth, NH? Any sim check? Thanks!

 

When I did my interview last summer as a DEC I only did the in house interview and sim. My sim was in the Mission Fit (an FTD of the PC-12NG) and it’s my understanding that all sims will be in the Mission Fit.

 

The mission fit is not a good FTD. Careers are ruined with that thing. $3M they paid and it's just not a good FTD. They tried doing "checkrides" in it and everyone was washing out. It's pretty for what it is, a flow trainer. Touch function is off the charts bad. Just my opinion.

That FTD, the Mission Fit, sounds like it would be fine for someone that has been in the PC-12 recently, but probably a bit quirky for someone that hasn't been in the aircraft for a while.

 

Exactly. That's the statement I made when I said careers were killed because of it. Mainly DEC.

No. Not at all. A red bird is easy. It's what I did mine in/on. Rather a table top version of a red bird. Then a full size red bird for initial IFR checkouts. In my opinion, it's a nice piece of equipment. As an FO, you must pass a couple of "checkrides" before you are allowed to go to Dallas for the real sim. A lot weren't getting through. EC and the brass felt it was weeding out weaker candidates before wasting time and $ for the Level D at FSI. It's more of a procedures trainer, practice approaches, callouts, overall CRM training, flows, checklists or introduction to the avionics. 16-18 days in PSM, then another 7 in Dallas for a 12 is a bit much. I personally think PSI, GA, RT should have used the 3M and put that towards their own Level D PC 12 Sim. 3M only gets you a quarter of the way, but huge savings with training, travel, etc.

It’s a nice thought, but the mission fit is dirt cheap to operate compared to a Level D sim. Initial cost is high, but it works how it is intended to work and has lower recurring costs.

I doubt that “careers were ruined” as a result of using the mission fit. The mission fit does not substitute any portion of the checkride; it shouldn’t be reported in a PRIA request by a future air carrier.
