I live in Atlanta and Frontier has a base here. I've also been interested in Frontier from the beginning since they seem to fly to vacations spots which sounds a lot more fun than some of the other places airlines fly too. I'm retiring from the Air Force, so flying for a LCC with about 20% less pay would be worth it for me if the schedule at Frontier is easier though. On the other hand American does pay more and I could commute to Chicago and potentially eventually move there. I checked AA class drops and new hires are going to Chicago and my family lives there so no need for a crashpad. I feel like most will say go American but just thought I'd ask to get some feedback positive or negative either way.
I'll be honest. I'm trying not to be an a$$ but...

There are literally tens of posts both on here and on the American threads that compare and contrast not only F9 but the differences./positives/negatives of most airlines. Almost all of your concerns regarding bases, pay, etc. have been discussed. Do yourself a favor and back up about 10-15 pages on this thread and read. Then go to American "hiring/training" and read. Even threads on JB, Spirit, United, etc. compare and contrast almost every airline about the good and bad. Your question is way to broad to be answered in a simple posting.

Despite what you are able to glean from those, please keep in mind that ALL of that is subject to change at the drop of a hat. Changes in the economy, gas prices, base closures and openings, CEO hiring/firings, etc. are all unpredictable yet major aspects that can and often change each airlines' policies/procedures. F9 used to be a non-ULCC w/ the highest paid pilots in the industry. Now look at us...

Good luck

If you live in Atlanta, why would you not be going to Delta?

AR1978 where are you getting the 20% less pay figure from? Unless AA is giving out WB slots to new hires.

Well let's see Frontier pays 75/hr and AA pays 90/hr first year. Pretty easy math lol

Hourly rates are not enough information to determine this “simple math.” As a CA on 7th year pay I’ll be making over $45k this month. That’s with vacation and several premium trips, but all in I’m just a few hours shy of 200 credit. 16 days off as well. This is the type of stuff that I’m nervous about losing in our next contract. I’d be surprised if you can credit close to 200 hours at AA in a single month.

I wouldn't base anything on spots flown. ULCC is all about red eyes and turns. I could be wrong but I think any long overnights on the beach go real senior. Detroit overnights might be more of a reality early on. You are actually more likely to be able to bid desirable overnights with AA once building some seniority. ATL will take some time to hold with Frontier as well. If you have offers at both, Frontier is more fiscally secure than AA so take that into consideration. If you don't have offers at both - then apply and add Delta to that list and decide once you have 3 offers in hand.

What is ATL looking like for holding it? I also live there and they told us when I was at the interview (2 weeks ago) you could most likely hold it out of training.

I'm pretty sure new hires have gotten ATL.

If you don't, you'll very likely be able to get ATL on the next bid. It's very new still, but the new bases have stayed pretty junior at F9. The only bases that you might not be able to get very quickly are DEN and LAS.
