And there will always be some people - like the Sikhs with their religion - to whom my comments don’t apply. When I talk about calotype, I’m just talking about the other 99%.

I'm all for juvenile humor and posting nonsense but this really is over the line. The fact that you would say I would be so irresponsible and absurd is pretty insulting and I would like an apology.

I would never eat at McDonald's.

In the USAF I knew a couple of people who had sensitive skin and had shaving waivers. But none of them were pilots, O2 mask issue I think.

Good on them. Ties are idiotic when you don't work behind a desk and especially when you work somewhere operating levers and switches. Just make the shirts with the pattern/print of a tie in the middle if it's so damn important.

True, but the ties (and the uniform in general) exist for the public, mainly to enhance their confidence in the flight crew but also to enhance our image as authority figures should that be necessary.

You can take off the tie once the door's shut, and most of us do that.

Airline pilot uniforms may change with the times but they'll probably stay distinctive for those reasons.

Off-duty cops are often loath to interfere with minor crime... if the perp questions their authority due to wearing a tank top, board shorts, and flip-flops they could wind up in a serious escalation. "Clothes make the Man".

You missed the rest of Twain’s quote,

“…Naked people have little or no influence on society”.

Well that's why I say print it on. Best of both worlds. Optional tho if you have a tie-tattoo.

Hawaiian has had beards in the cockpit for many years. ALPA Group. Have your Union talk to ours. It is not an FAA mandate, the POI spoke to us directly about it.

This is me. So I shave every 2-3 days. Nobody gives me any grief.
