I've been studying my FAA 'airplane flying handbook' religiously...have most of it memorized.

Vagabond;... ATIS means airport terminal information system.
It is a recording that is on a specific frequency giving airport specific information.. Winds, active runways, sky cover, visibility,temperature /dewpoint, barometric pressure and any NOTAMS
It is updated hourly unless something significant changes beforehand.
Acronyms are so common in aviation that sometimes it is a chore to remember what something actually stands for, as it is always refered to by its acronym.( who remembers TIBBS and TWEBS ?? )

Don't hear much from the gang much anymore. Hope everyone is well. Yesterday had a medical emergency enroute and then on a later flight had to divert to KMSY for petrol due to bad weather in IAH - long day. Off to SFO tomorrow but have two red-eyes looming that should finish me off for a day or two. Wish I could win the lottery and retire to a life of leisure. Enough dreaming, got a 0725 push in the morning. Should hit Starbucks about 0600, pick up my USA about 0615 and show up to fly about 0645 or 0700. So predictable!

 

Crashman, thank you for the first positive post in a long time. This weekend, all the lawyer bashers, non-pilot bashers, women bashers and it seems minority bashers came out in force. I got some unnecessary abuse and decided I was not going to post anymore. tomgoodman was only one of a very few who stood up for me. Oh well. Live and learn, eh?
