I figure that this is as good a place as any to post this.
Anyone here have experience with the CMP? I've been jones'n hard for an M1 for a long time and I'm finally going to 'pull the trigger' and satiate my craving. I intend to just travel to one of their stores and hand select my rifle. I've got my sights set on a service grade of any manufacture, but if none are available (very possible), I know I can step up to an HRA service grade special.
I meet all of the eligibility requirements for purchase from the CMP and am too impatient to wait via snail mail for a rifle. Being able to jump on flights to head out to the stores and pick my rifle by hand seems to be an opportunity most M1 buyers don't get to have, so why not, ya know?
Any other M1 owners here? Just looking for some general discussion about M1s and the CMP.

And a completely unrelated gun thought to my previous post...
My wife and I are shopping around for a small 9mm/.380 semi-auto for her to carry concealed. Purse carry is out of the question in both our minds. She is small with small hands and a lefty.
So far, we have gone to the local fun stores and looked at:
- S&W bodyguard - she hates the way it looks..yeah, I know...
- Ruger LCP - dislikes the sights and says its too small
- Taurus 709slim - I own one, don't plan to keep it, not a fan
- Springfield XDs - viewed the .45, waiting for the 9mm to come out
Still waiting to get a first hand look at the Ruger lc9c and S&W shield, anyone here familiar with these guns? Thoughts?
We are trying to avoid compact/subcompact versions of full sized pistols because while they have shorter over length and height, they're still just as wide as their full size counterparts. We'd like to stick with the slimmer models like those listed above.
I know that there are a lot of options out there, so I'm sure I'm missing some other weapons that would be worth looking at and so I thought I'd ping the members here to see what else is out there that I haven't thought of yet.

Try a Sig Sauer P938. It's a miniature 1911 chambered for 9mm, not as wide as a full 1911. Avoid the early serial numbers due to FTE issues, and the triggers are made of cheap plastic, but otherwise a fine gun. About $750.

Also, a .380 like Colt makes is fine. Higher pressure .380 rounds will be plenty equivalent to a 9mm. Less than .380 might get questionable.

The USP Compact 9mm/.40S&W is too big a gun for pocket or purse carry. Cops wear them as open-carry duty weapons. .38 ACP (James Bond gun) is not a manstopper, which is why nobody uses them in law enforcement or military as their primary duty arm. 9mm/.38/.357 is the smallest truly deadly caliber, and you need to be in close range. The .40 S&W was invented because 9mm was not deadly enough to save a group of FBI agents responding with 9mm/.38/.357 calibers to a bank heist in the late 1980s that went wrong. Kahr makes some very good pocket guns, and .38 revolvers work fine as well. I would feel exposed with anything smaller.
