At my facility, we don't coordinate each airplane like that, but we have procedures that dictate how airplanes will be delivered from feeder to feeder and feeder to final controllers (sometimes we coordinate individual airplanes). If I did get you from another controller in my facility, it is true that I don't have to verify your mode C, but if you're not level, I like to hear to what altitude you're descending; mistakes or miscommunication does happen.

If you are checking in to approach from the center, "Descending to 10,000" when you're going through 12,500 requires me to verify your mode C the same way as "climbing to 5000" does on departure.

Oh, I agree, don't get me wrong. I never say "takin' the active." Just saying that places that do often have a tetrahedron and segmented circle, or it is a bunch of old guys who all use the same end every time and all know each other.

I fly into a couple places like this, fortunately both are pretty nice to newcomers though. But their position reports are terrible, and there are occasionally those that (still legally) do not even use a radio.

Thoughts?
You're required to state callsign, altitude passing and altitude assigned for a mode C check. No need for the heading and speed assigned unless asked to do so.

That's actual ICAO phraseology. Still, I never liked it much either.

Deltas 123, Amercans, 123 etc.

Any word or phrase that is intended to be cute. I.E. "On the hold", "....conga line", "in the penalty box" etc.

"As-salam" (short for "God be with you" in Arabic) Nobody‘s god, Christian or Muslim, belongs on the freq. It‘s practically standard in the ME. I realize when I‘m in their country, tough doodoo for me, so I digress. But I can still think it.

I say it occasionally too. I definitely picked it up from JFK controllers though.
