How does having a hotel during training give you more free time to look for permanent housing?
Are you aware that Delta doesn’t provide a hotel in ATL for new hire sims if you’re based there?
Alaska doesn’t provide a new hire hotel at all either.

maybe you should stay on the mainland then? Usually when people want something they just do it or work for it. It’s not ideal not to have hotels but majority of people already live in Hawaii or have some sort of connection to the islands.

Lol the regional I fly for got me a hotel for training even though I already lived 15 minutes from the training base. Crazy to think there's an airline who doesn't get you a hotel for training.
If I worked for Hawaiian I would certainly want to move to HNL but it would take me a while of actually being on the island to find a place. I have a wife and kids and won't get a place where I haven't personally been to, to scout out the area. That's not really possible while I'm working for a regional on the mainland. If they offered a hotel during training I could use my free time to find a permanent location for my family.

I started at a regional around 20 yrs ago that gave a hotel for training for the first 2 weeks to allow pilots time to get settled into class, and also find housing/crashpads. We had one base so everyone was training in base.

It’s not group think, it’s asking a Year 2+ pilot how much in negotiating capital they are willing to give up for training hotels. The company is free to offer higher first year pay and hotels at any time.

Group think is not directed at any particular pilot group. It's how things operate all over Hawaii. Raising a dissenting opinion is not wanted nor welcome. The applicant concerned about training hotels has a valid concern, and is met by "if ya don't like it don't apply" attitudes.
