The Hawaiian contract allows you to stack 18 days of reserve in a row pretty easily. You could do that and get 12 days off to go home with every month. I think alaska only allows 6 days in a row. Not sure if the 18 day thing will carry over or not.

your best option to do that would be to bid reserve. We have the ability to bid all 12 days off in a row. Potentially stringing 24 days off in a row from month to month. Being junior would affect your ability to actually achieve that, but I would imagine you could get stretches of days off during non peak travel seasons. Whether that sticks around with a new joint contract is a mystery.

There are a few of us at AS hoping it sticks around. Under the AS contract trying to visit family in East Asia as a junior FO would only be possible once a year on vacation. I’ve been actively asking reps about keeping the HAL reserve option of one big block of reserve.

Unless you’re based anywhere other than Seattle. I too hope the ability to stack reserve days stays in the JCBA. Any improvements to flexibility are a plus.

Does long call and ultra long reserve exist for all fleet types?

Ultra Long Call was a trial period and company didn’t renew their subscription.

How does fleet bidding work for new hires? I know SSN determines initial seniority, but does a new hire class get to bid on any of these 70 slots, or if there's a class of 10, you get 10 choices? I've only worked at carriers with a single fleet or where you're assigned a fleet, so this whole system is new to me.

They have pre determined training slots they need to fill for each class. A class of 10 might have a few of each type or might be all of one type or any variation in between. Bidding for aircraft I think still occurs on day one of class and is based on seniority. They do run freight separately so guys that only want freight don’t get a surprise on the first day of class.

Hiring window opens June 2nd-5th on the Hawaiian Airlines hiring portal. Looks like it won't be for very many applicants as they're just looking to fill two classes before SOC, at which point all hiring will be done through Alaska.

Default Mainland Commute

Aloha all -

Can anyone elaborate on the way commuting would work for someone living in the Pensacola, FL area in the interim until 2nd year pay? Is it possible to commute on a codeshare through Alaska? Or would it be prudent to select CVG as a domicile in the interim?

Excited for the window to be open.

Thanks! Fly safe!
