oldcarpilot 07-05-2010 12:19 PM

Got the invite to interview today.
4580 TT
1480 TPIC
4 internals, 1 external
They REALLY want everything you can filled out. They even wanted my high school GPA!

DedRecon 07-05-2010 12:21 PM

Great news! When is your interview date. I'm trying to see if there's any current insight or gouge out there yet.

oldcarpilot 07-05-2010 12:23 PM

Haven't called to schedule a date yet. Literally just got the e-mail.

DedRecon 07-05-2010 12:26 PM

Awesome. They orginally had dates from 24 Jun to Jul 22nd. I'm curious if they've expanded that any. Good Luck!

oldcarpilot 07-05-2010 12:35 PM

Thanks. I'll try to post what I know when I know it.

Congrats & Good Luck!! :)

Wuzzo 07-05-2010 01:11 PM

Got mine yesterday, only a few hours after pressing "submit" on airline apps for the first time. I've got a couple internals, but as I sent those out only a bit before that, they aren't in yet. Called today, but they're out for the holiday.

2400TT
2200Turbine, all Mil Fighter/Trainer
(and of course my wuzzo time, which I don't think matters 'tall)

Good luck all - hope to see some of you in ATL.

DedRecon 07-05-2010 01:16 PM

It sounds like the interview/hire machine is starting to run at full bore. Good luck to both of you. I may run into you in ATL as well.

acl65pilot 07-05-2010 02:50 PM

It is simple. If there is a box, put something in it. Of course they want you HS GPA!

BDGERJMN 07-05-2010 03:11 PM

Received the invite email today as well.

Mil
~2000 TT uncorrected
~1800 ME PIC

5 recs(2 internal) Got the invite literally two days after latest internal rec was posted to airlineapps.

FWIW I had been selected for interview in April 2008, but didnt get to interview before DAL stopped hiring.

DedRecon 07-05-2010 03:17 PM

Has anyone heard how many people will go to class in August? I have seen some posts where people got job offers.

My buddy was told to expect a class date anywhere from early sept to early oct DEPENDING on what happens with the flowthrough agreements. Fwiw

DedRecon 07-05-2010 03:50 PM

Thanks, That's great info!

acl65pilot 07-05-2010 04:13 PM

I beleive there are a few that have had their background checks and everything else come back thumbs up, so now it is just time to wait for Brian to call em with a class date! :D

Razorback flyer 07-05-2010 05:19 PM

So is big B still officially running the new hire welcome wagon?

Crew resources and scheduling said a few weeks ago that the first class (August 2nd,) would have only recalls, and the August 16th class would see the first fresh faces. I believe they said 30 bodies per class. With 45ish recalls comming in, that would leave about 15 spots in the August 16th class for newbies, and most of the spots in all classes after that. (Recalls can give a 30 day notice that they want to come back, so there are usually a few of them in every class.)

DedRecon 07-05-2010 05:29 PM

Thanks for the update. And to share my ignorance who is Brian?

So, especially for those who got hired in 08 (or any folks who've been picked up in this latest round) - please tell me if this distillation of interview prep advice I've read is more or less on-target:

- Realize I'm interviewing from the moment I step to the departure counter
- Have all my documentation gtg and square
- Listen to Tony
- Study the hell on topics from the guide
- Log onto luminosity.com to get the brain working again
- Cell phone off when I'm waiting for the crew bus
- Listen to Tony
- Talk to Delta friends to shore up internal recs and get their advice/updates
- Spend some time thinking back over my experiences for anecdotes that might be good to recall for TAAT questions.
- Listen to Tony
- Basic interview stuff: Be honest, straightforward, thoughtful, polite, and direct, make/keep eye contact, use names, sirs, ma'ams.
- Oh yeah, got the navy blue suits and red ties. Will pick up some fresh shirts, and dig up my black briefcase from my Agent days (or is that old hat now?).

Anything else I'm missing? Something about listening to a guy named Tony comes to mind...

Also - I've pored over the WFFF interview reports, but is there any other good gouge you might recommend?

Thanks in advance.

LOBO 07-05-2010 05:50 PM

You know he reads this thread!!! I can see B. B. laughing out loud now.

dragon 07-05-2010 05:56 PM

I wrote that part about Tony. Not sure if he's still there but the point he was trying to impart was to be yourself in the testing and to breathe from time to time. ;-)

Good Luck. Wear the uniform and don't be afraid to be yourself - in other words, if you want to take off your coat - do it. If you don't, then just be comfortable and know who you are and what your leadership style is.

Don't bring ANY newspapers into any of the delta buildings, for some reason they hate those things. FWIW.

This is great gouge, Wuzzo.

One more thing, though: be sure to listen to Tony. Seriously. He gave me a mid-course correction on something I was misinterpreting. I'm convinced he saved my bacon.

Martin404 07-07-2010 05:49 AM

Dumb question... who's tony?

Tony was the guy that ran the testing last time. Don't know if h is still there. He was a calming influence and tried to get everyone to do their best.

upndsky 07-07-2010 09:55 AM

Yup, I'll back up what everyone else is saying... Listen to Tony.

Also, if they give you a "What if..." and you're not sure which direction to take it, base your answer on the following order:

1. Safety
2. Customer experience/satisfaction
3. Efficiency/cost

Oh, and listen to Tony.

BalloonChaser 07-07-2010 10:45 AM

Also, if it hasn't been said yet, for the TMAT questions - keep the stories to the SAR format - Situation, Actions, Resolution (Positive if possible)
Upndsky has the correct order of priorities!!! - Safety, Service, Cost

For the panel, here's the advice I gave a friend - You're attending a "career day" and you have three high school seniors who all have their private/instrument certificates. They want to know about your flying career as an "expert." Thus, they pick your brain. Use the above analogy and you'll sound professional, technical and you won't drop the "F" bomb during interview!

Also, there's some video examples of the Cog Screen we did back in the day at www.cogres.com

And don't post you're interview date in APC - never know who can put two and two together!

Good luck!

KC10 FATboy 07-07-2010 11:38 AM

Dropping F bombs or other cuss words doesn't exactly mean you fail the interview. I'm a shiny exactly of that. However, it isn't something I recommend.

Make sure you put the correct resume online too. :o

When I applied with NWA I cut and paste my resume to the website, and it turns out it still said seeking position of pilot with Delta Air Lines!! DOH!!! It was fun laughing that one off with the NWA interview panel.

It's even more funny, because now I am a DAL pilot!!! :p

Wow, and they hired you? That is hilarious.

I bet those folks sure do have some good interview stories.

Yeah, I just had to convince them I wanted to work for NWA more then DAL. ;)

I'm either really good, or they were really gullible. :p:D
