Do they still have the rocking chair at the Delta interview?

I like to discuss these things here, I would hate to bring it to the Frequent Flyer and travel agent boards, I need an outlet and appreciate this message board.

80ktsClamp 06-21-2010 07:53 PM

No rocking chair anymore.

No clue what that jibberish of a "sentence" the second part was.

taylorjets 06-21-2010 08:13 PM

Anyone without internal letters of rec?

Is there anyone out there without an internal letter of rec that has received a letter?

I do not know anyone at Delta, yet I am continuing to update my resume via airline apps in the hope of some good luck.

My qualifications include

4250 TT
3900 Jet
1,050 Turbine PIC
5 type ratings
Former part 121, current part 135 PIC
BA degree

Does a guy like me stand a chance? Thank you.

Civillian CFI/Regional Capt.
7000 TT
4500 Turbine
750 CRJ SIC
2700 EMB-120 PIC
BS in Info Systems from SDSU
1 LOR

My interview is the middle of July. Can't Wait!!

My friend who just got invited on Friday has almost the same exact quals with more CRJ time. Only 1 LOR (from me). I'm assuming you're Skywest. So is he. Good luck in the interview!

I don't mean to be crass.

But are your 18-years old and working out of your mother's basement?

If not, sure sounds like it.

At the beginning of the wave, no.

Later on- if you have a clean record you will possibly get your chance. I've got a friend that is an LCA and a perfectly clean record that hasn't gotten a call, likely due to being still below 1500 TPIC.

Buzz,

If you feed the troll, it just means he'll return for more!! Maybe FTB can make up a sign that states "Do Not Feed the Trolls", instead of Bears, or something to that nature!! (hint)

Yeah, I know GJ. Just sitting here in my hotel room with nothing else to do and thought I'd jab the little man. I apologize.

I almost posted the exact same warning on the DAL thread for ACL and FTB. I won't feed him anymore. I promise.

Back in line.

Cheers,
Buzz

I've taken care of his post in the L&G.... posting the same idiocy 2 weeks in a row isn't gonna cut it.

The rocking chair is gone.
Now when you sit down in the waiting room, there are two magazines.
The "Delta Digest" and "Cheerleaders of the SEC".
Which one will you pick up? Choose carefully.

What's the right answer? I would pick up the "Cheerleaders of the SEC" 10 out of 10 times. I've read "Delta Digest" before and it's boring as all hell. Hopefully the cheerleader magazine has pictures.

Why, that's easy. You pick up both magazines, slide the "Cheerleaders" into the "Delta Digest", then lean back and enjoy!

Is this a trick question?
:D

Yes, from a current Delta FO

frmrdashtrash 06-21-2010 09:37 PM

I filled the DAL app as a "single app" on Airline Apps and now can't get back to the addendum page. The screen gives me the option of starting another app or renewing my subscription.

Anyone else had this problem and found a solution? That $55-$60 for the renewal is a lot of money to us right now. Not un-doable, but definitely requires some extra thought.

Well, remember they're just trying to figure out if you are the kind of person they'd want to spend a 4-day with. I think the choice is easy. :D

I'd hold Cheerleaders of the SEC as high in the air as I could, probably stand up and go lean against the wall while reading it just to make sure everyone knew I was "reading" it.

Oh yeah, I'll copy it, with some liberties:

Dear [FTB's real name]

Congratulations! Your medical and psychological test results have been received and both were acceptable. ( gulp, "acceptable" not "awesome" not "best since 80ktsclamp"???? How did I get hired?) Your background investigation has not yet been completed so your offer of employment remains conditional pending the receipt of the background information. (I bet you didn't do this to ACL people!) This is a normal situation since we must legally allow several weeks for all inquiries to be answered. (he, I wonder how the background went from Buzzpat, "you carried what on your wrist?!?")

However, at this time we are authorized to begin your training and you should expect to receive a call from Delta's... (I feel like a ping pong ball, "however," "acceptable" "authorized" "go ahead anyways", call scheduling, tell them I'm on SC but I'm sobbing in the corner of my basement in the fetal position)

Truth is, this is the first time I've read past the word "Congratulations!" :D

The cheerleader magazine has Tebow and some Gator girls on the cover.
If you turn it face down on the table, you're hired.

Also remember, in the interview when they ask you how to spell "dogs" -
the correct answer is "dawgs".

forgot to bid 06-22-2010 05:36 AM

I didn't see Tebow in that picture... is he in that picture?

Of course, you may have to take a stand if someone says how do you spell dogs, d-o-g-s or d-a-w-g-s? I'd stand up and say, if UGA can't spell the word dog right then thats their collective problem, I spell it dogs. :D

Stand up in your chair when you do it. It worth it.

Thinking about this, my buddy is kind of a liberal, I'd never really classify him as such but I think he says it. Anyways, he had the best line before he interviewed (and got the job): "I can be a Republican for 2 days." :D

Just found the email from Delta:

Dear Forgot to Bid,

The Delta Pilot Selection Team invites you to visit our Employment Office in Atlanta to be considered for the position of pilot. This process may require two consecutive days of your time. On the first day you will be tested and interviewed. If you receive a conditional job offer after the first day, on the second day you will undergo a company medical examination and take a psychological test with a follow-up interview by a psychologist. If you are interested in participating in this process, you should contact the Delta Air Lines Chief Pilot...

^^^ is that what the invites still look like? ^^^

I threw up... thanks.. I feel better now. You have no idea how hard it was for me to "quote" that so that you would know what I was talking about... I am glad I had an alcohol wipe handy...

What? That's a nice picture of a bunch of pretty girls.

camerschwieg 06-22-2010 08:25 AM

Are invites still going out or are they done for this round?

80ktsClamp 06-22-2010 08:43 AM

I have a friend that got one yesterday afternoon.

Why would those pretty girls want to wear those ugly blue and orange colors? That's just poor taste.

Hey there was a good little tidbit in the last one! They are working on an app for I-phone as well as a few other smart phones for Travelnet! That is the first place I saw that. :D

acl65pilot 06-22-2010 09:34 AM

Invites will continue to go out. They do it in waves. They assume a 50% failure rate on day one. At least that is what Capt Swift stated.

acl65pilot 06-22-2010 09:35 AM

As for the pilots that had their interviews canceled. None of them have told me they have gotten an invite and some have called and got a non answer and told to keep their apps updated.

acl...thanks for the info! (as if you haven't heard that before!)

beer 06-22-2010 10:23 AM

Yes there was..I will shorten the story to help all of you out.

I was an FO at ASA. No PIC time. Had all my app in by mid january 07 and started checking my email 10 times a day(I feel all your pain.)

By mid March I was really getting impatient. I went to the AIR INC. conference in LA, shook some hands and gave out my resume. Got the invitation to interview one week later.:D

Interviewed in April 07 and F'ed up the cog test. They said, seeeya in 6 months. By the next week I was in upgrade school.

Re-interviewed October 07 and passed all of it. I was told by the Doc that my EKG was weird. Had a cardiologist take a look and he said you have the same EKG as anyone who is 6'4. One week later got the OK to Train email. That was the end of October and I started class January 08:D

FWIW...I had a friend that was a legacy and had not gotten the email to interview. My other friends who were legacies had already been hired. He went to a Women in Aviation conference, shook hands and got the interview.

I do not know anyone at Delta, yet I am continuing to update my resume via airline apps in the hope of some good luck.

My qualifications include

4250 TT
3900 Jet

5 type ratings
Former part 121, current part 135 PIC
BA degree

Taylor,
I would imagine you're just a bit below competitive mins right now. Still, Delta tends to look at the "total package" and not just the flight times. (Though they may have a minimum threshold to get over to be considered for an invite.) You might have something else on your resume that makes you stand out as a good potential candidate. The only way to know is to keep updating and hope for the best.

DO keep updating, though. I have heard from several people that attended job fairs and heard Delta recruiters giving tips last time around that updating on a fairly regular basis DOES help flag you in the computer system. I shows that the info they have on you is recent, and that you are interested in working for Delta, and didn't just fill out an app 'cause you needed a job and they happened to be hirring. Updating once a month or two, or once every 100 flights hours is a good benchmark. Even if you're not flying much, its still a good idea to go in every few months and change something minor - just show your app shows a recent update.

And with the magazine, I think you need to pick up both, then offer the choice to the guy next to you. (This shows you know your role as an FO is to let the Captain have first choice!) Just make sure you kindly ask him if you can have the cheerleader magazine when he's finished.

And it can be spelled HOGS or HAWGS! Oh, I'm sorry - did you say dogs?
