I had an interview today. They said they are hiring 260 this year and they are running 2 classes a month. They were telling us that if we get hired the earliest class we could be in starts Feb 28th.

Based on the latest vacancy, start looking for crashpads in DTW if you get hired on the 9E side. LOTS of openings for future NH classes there. Word from management is 200+ off the street this year with upgrades continuing on top of that.
|
I interviewed with Pinnacle Feb 2. Said they're hiring about 260 pilots this year. Seem to be a bit understaffed compared to other regionals. My class date is March 14 for the CRJ200. They said that ATL is way senior and you can forget about it....JFK is new and most junior.

I'd say DTW is the junior base right now. Latest vacancy has 15 DTW openings and 1 JFK. After things calm down (or guys that took a displacement to JFK for the $$$ and bid to DTW do that), JFK will probably wind up the junior base, though. ATL might be easier to get than MEM or MSP in the future. |
Based on the fact that the TA just passed, come april 1 when some of the provisions of the contract become active, we are going to be WAAAAAY understaffed. Even more so than we are now.

BOHICA. We're pretty much gonna be down to 11 days off. Maybe even 10, and they'll just pay everyone the extra 8 hours and the comp day..... |

Buddy of mine that is only one class ahead of me just got offered the 900 in Atlanta, and let's just say his seniority number is way way junior. Looks like the realignment bid is filled with people leaving ATL to chase the money for displacement. So 900 is going more junior then some realize. May not stick that way once they try to bid back to ATL but I am just saying. |

Oh, no doubt. It won't be as junior as JFK or DTW, though. I'd be surprised to see any new hire vacancies for MSP or MEM in the next year. Might see some on secondaries MAYBE when guys bid to upgrade or to get out of the base. |

Come on, you cant tell me you dont want to do Cozumel and Turks and Caicos turns all day?
I did a grand total of 3 international trips in two years on the aircraft, and didn't hit 1000 total hours on the plane. |

Those turns don't go that junior... I played that game once before, but I'm happy to be flying now.

I live in ATL (class date 3/14) and would like to be based in ATL. However, when we interviewed they said "No Way, it's probably gonna be JFK." They said that JFK reserve would be a couple of months and I'd eventually get back to ATL if I wanted it. With only 16 900's in ATL as of now, it seems like I might not get to fly much but I wouldn't have to commute. I'm still outside looking in and am not really sure what to expect at this point. What's the commute ATL-JFK like?

yeah the guys doing the intl turns all the time are the ones buying beer for the schedulers... I called scheduling on a daily basis begging to fly while I was there. |

some very interesting news from my neck of the woods. As of today, Pinnacle and the University of Oklahoma have signed a direct entry hire agreement. Basically OU graduates who pass the background chek will be placed on the "hired list" and will recevive class dates as available. No interview at all. The agreement is effective as of today.
Looks like i may be going to Pinnacle very soon. |

Agreement reads you must have a commercial multi with instrument, 3.0 GPA, no more than 2 failed rides, no more than 2 tickets in last 3 years, first class medical, and passport. Also says you can be offered a class date by Pinnacle, Mesaba, or Colgan. No mention of any minimum hour requirement.

Well considering a CFI isnt required to graduate from there I would assume most do not and most I have spoken to graduate with the minimum for 141 commercial. It is amazing how my fellow co workers cant get a call who have been instructing for a couple years, yet these schools ink deals like these.

It's also amazing how new hour requirements are on their way and pinnacle is Choosing to ignore them and get whatever they can before they start. It must be part of their safety first initiative. This actually blows my mind. There are so many qualified people out there with experience and they are choosing to do this.
FYI, most of the newbies I've been flying with are either guys that have been at other carriers, former freight guys, some that flew corporate jets, a few guys that have been CFIs for the past couple of years and one or two that did either survey or pipeline patrol. |
I have a hard time believing they are having trouble this early in the game. With the industry stagnate for the last 3 years I would have thought their would be plenty of CFI's to fill these classes. I do believe in a shortage but thought it would come into play later this year. I'm shocked this is happening already. What are the plans internally to ramp up recruiting? Does anyone know the number of no shows for other classes recently?

Maybe $400.00 a week and sharing a hotel room with someone for 8 weeks was just too demoralizing.

Our class all had their own rooms, thank jeses ! However the very next class after me they changed it and started with the dudes on dudes program. |
From the new contract:
A. Lodging and Rest Facilities 1. A Pilot shall be furnished with suitable single occupancy lodging at the Company's expense at all overnight stations, including training (unless the Pilot actually resides within fifty (50) miles of the training site), and Continuous Duty Overnights. When selecting hotels, the following criteria will be considered: safety, cleanliness, reasonable cost, eating facility, proximity to the airport, non-smoking rooms and the ability of the Pilot to obtain rest (quiet). D. Pay Effective Date 1. A new hire Pilot will be paid at the rate identified in paragraph A., above, appropriate to the category for which he is in training. And the above is the aircraft payrates for everyone. |

I would have thought the same thing, but the person I heard it from on the hiring team isn't one of those that makes stuff up or repeats random rumors. |
