Negotiations have also been going on for years with many individuals on both sides of the fence saying that an agreement is just around the corner frequently throughout the process.
Don't get your hopes up. If you come to Pinnacle, Colgan, or Mesaba, plan on working under the current agreement for the duration of your employment. Anything else would be foolish.

I've been on reserve here for over two years, and I'm not going to sugarcoat it...IT SUCKS!! You are typically on call five days out of the week. The minimum days off are 10, and be prepared to get junior manned or extended. Hope this helps

When I went through over two years ago, we chose our base within the first few days of class. DTW has traditionally been the junior base, but that's probably going to change now that JFK is coming into the light.

so if you're on call 5 days a week..and u commute...are you able to commute home on ur last day of work?..or u have to commute on ur off days?...which means ull only be home for 1 day?...
what does junior manned or extended mean?

As for the second question...
Extended: Involuntarily forced to continue working beyond your scheduled end day / time. ie: You're supposed to finish on friday night and you are forced to work overnight into saturday.
Juniormanned: Involuntarily forced to work on your day off, unconnected to other work. ie: You are off friday, saturday, and sunday. You're called on thursday and told you are involuntarily being forced to fly on saturday. This is called being "juniormanned" due to the fact that they are usually assigned to the most junior pilot who is capable of flying the trip that day. That means you, reserves.
Airlines have a varying degree of contractual protections against these (amount of times, ways they can get you, pay treatment, etc), but I wouldn't expect much protection at Pinnacle, and from what I hear, it happens quite often.

(For the rest of you...)
It depends on where you live and what the flight schedules are. For example, if your duty period ends at 10pm and the last flight home leaves at 8pm, then enjoy another night in the crashpad.

To answer the first question: Sometimes you can get lucky...my buddy commuted to AL from DTW for over a year and sometimes he'd be done with an assignment by, say, 5pm and he'd have more than enough time to get home that day and not worry about traveling on an off day. It didn't always work out that way though. Other times he'd get done around 10pm and then he'd be SOL and have to commute home on a day off, get there that night, and then leave the next afternoon to come back...wasn't pretty to watch. If you're senior enough on reserve you can bid for RRL (ready reserve late); it starts at 1900 and they usually give it to you on day 1 of 5. It's almost like having an extra day off. I know a reserve guy who commutes to DTW from Seattle, and he'll catch the early flight out of SEA and arrive in DTW in the afternoon...not too bad considering...
