Pinnacle hiring...

I think it is hillarious that they are hiring 160 or 180 or whatever but upgrading no one. DTW just lost 15 captains to JFK and they decided to backfill none of them. They will tell you that we lost some flying hours in DTW but the rest of us know that all they are doing is bringing the staffing right back to the point where it only works in good weather.

Thats what they are doing at Mesaba as well, we have had 3 or 4 realignment notices increasing captain slots and decreasing Saab FO slots but not creating secondary vacancies...so it didn't take long to go to the Pinnacle staffing plan over here...we will be running pretty slim until airplanes start going away in January

During my time in new hire class, if we had 5 or more days off in a row, we could non-rev (not jumpseat). It was about the same price as a ZED pass. This was 4+ years ago, when it was with NWA benefits. I don't know if they will offer the same thing now.

They are upgrading, but those upgrades in the school house right now are going to JFK. The complaint is they are not backfilling those domiciles where current captains are vacating to go to JFK.

So here's my question, at some point they will hire off the street but there will still be Mesaba guys who haven't been offered classes. Will the Mesaba guys who take classes AFTER the first off the street hires be slotted above the off the streets on Pinnacle's list based on their Mesaba Seniority. Example: Off the street guy A is hired Oct12 with another 20 off the street guys with him. Mesaba guy B is hired Nov12. Is Mesaba guy B senior to Off the street guy A and all his class mates at Pinnacle?

Don't come to Pinnacle expecting to be on reserve for little or no time. We have first officers who have been on reserve for 2-3 years now and all feel they have paid their dues. This is not to say we would like to see you sit reserve for just as long, but just to be somewhat sensitive over your expectations.

The memorandum of understanding signed between Pinnacle and Mesaba states:
Section 9
Furloughed Mesaba pilots who accept offers of employment by Pinnacle shall be placed on the Pinnacle Pilot Seniority List ("Seniority List") in order of their Mesaba seniority below all pilots who are on the Seniority List as of the date of signing this MOU. Such pilots shall be placed on the Seniority List above new hire pilots hired by Pinnacle who are not furloughed Mesaba pilots employed pursuant to this MOU. If, however, a furloughed Mesaba pilot declines an offer of Pinnacle employment and then accepts a subsequent offer of employment with Pinnacle, such pilot shall be placed on the Seniority List based upon the first date he attends Pinnacle pilot ground training, without regard to his relative seniority at Mesaba.

The MOU also lets furloughed Mesaba pilots to keep their Mesaba recall rights. Some furloughed Mesaba pilots who have snubbed Pinnacle and Colgan's offer of employment seem to think they are going to be "recalled" for placement on an integrated seniority list at Pinnacle - which may or may not happen. Our MEC's have not yet officially spoken about integration methods... but if they do, off the street new hires will be held down if the furloughs do later decide to come to Pinnacle.
