Don't get your hopes up. If you come to Pinnacle, Colgan, or Mesaba, plan on working under the current agreement for the duration of your employment. Anything else would be foolish. |

Have you guys been choosing a base during training or during the interview?? What's the seniority of dtw? Also how many days are you typically on reserve per week? Thanks!
I've been on reserve here for over two years, and I'm not going to sugarcoat it...IT SUCKS!! You are typically on call five days out of the week. The minimum days off are 10, and be prepared to get junior manned or extended. Hope this helps;) |

When I went through over two years ago, we chose our base within the first few days of class. DTW has traditionally been the junior base, but that's probably going to change now that JFK is coming into the light.

what does junior manned or extended mean? As for the second question... Extended: Involuntarily forced to continue working beyond your scheduled end day / time. ie: You're supposed to finish on friday night and you are forced to work overnight into saturday. Juniormanned: Involuntarily forced to work on your day off, unconnected to other work. ie: You are off friday, saturday, and sunday. You're called on thursday and told you are involuntarily being forced to fly on saturday. This is called being "juniormanned" due to the fact that they are usually assigned to the most junior pilot who is capable of flying the trip that day. That means you, reserves. Airlines have a varying degree of contractual protections against these (amount of times, ways they can get you, pay treatment, etc), but I wouldn't expect much protection at Pinnacle, and from what I hear, it happens quite often. |

what does junior manned or extended mean? dpnz wer u lv n wat flt skeds r lik (For the rest of you...) It depends on where you live and what the flight schedules are. For example, if your duty period ends at 10pm and the last flight home leaves at 8pm, then enjoy another night in the crashpad. |

what does junior manned or extended mean? To answer the first question: Sometimes you can get lucky...my buddy commuted to AL from DTW for over a year and sometimes he'd be done with an assignment by, say, 5pm and he'd have more than enough time to get home that day and not worry about traveling on an off day. It didn't always work out that way though. Other times he'd get done around 10pm and then he'd be SOL and have to commute home on a day off, get there that night, and then leave the next afternoon to come back...wasn't pretty to watch. If you're senior enough on reserve you can bid for RRL (ready reserve late); it starts at 1900 and they usually give it to you on day 1 of 5. It's almost like having an extra day off. I know a reserve guy who commutes to DTW from Seattle, and he'll catch the early flight out of SEA and arrive in DTW in the afternoon...not too bad considering... |

Keep in mind: Delta requires employees to activate their employee pass travel benefits by logging onto their TravelNet system and paying an annual $50 activation fee based off of your hire date. You will not be able to non-rev without it. |

Nope. You should have your pass travel and jumpseating privileges from the date of issuing your crew ID badge (well, maybe CASS might take a few days dunno... but soon afterwards).

To my knowledge its a CRJ900 base, which mean more money and more people want to fly it. Therefor is more senoir. When I interviewed they said they pretty much had vacencies at all bases except ATL. Although most new hires would be going to JFK cause that is where they need people the most due to the new opening of the new base in october.. |

I know they said they plan on hiring 65 but does Anyone have info on continued hiring??

what do u mean by cracking down?..as in eliminating domestic partnership bennefits?.. domestic partnership doesn't only pertain to homosexuals...what bout a man and women who've been together for a long period of time who aren't legally married? |

domestic partnership doesn't only pertain to homosexuals...what bout a man and women who've been together for a long period of time who aren't legally married? I was catching a flight the other day and this older guy walked up to the agent to get his ticket after the agent called for him. When he approached, the agent asked him who he worked for and he replied "Delta". After further questioning (for some reason), he changed his story to say he was a "dependent." His age clearly gave him away so the agent asked "how old are you and are you in school?" To which the guy THEN said he was a registered dependent (in school or something). The agent made a remark about him requiring a "paper coupon" and asked if he paid his fee yet..dunno but he was near the last guy to board the plane. He was at least in his mid-late 30's. |

Rumor was and this was from a fairly good source that they wanted to hire 100 aditional more pilots ( after the first 65) at the end of this year or the very begining part of next year.,,, Ofcourse being in this business everything is subject to change. |
disregard.

I was down in MEM today for my Sim. The APD says they are looking at about 180 ish new hire. I'm not sure when when they want these new hires by.
|
Could someone please take down my quote on post 141? After re-reading it, it might come off as offensive. It was never intended that way.
|
180ish? So if you could get hired early, you may not have to be on reserve or you'll at least beable to choose which base to be on reserve at correct??
|
Same for me.

willflyforfood.com has the gouge.

I think it is hillarious that they are hiring 160 or 180 or whatever but upgrading no one. DTW just lost 15 captains to JFK and they decided to backfill none of them. They will tell you that we lost some flying hours in DTW but the rest of us know that all they are doing is bringing the staffing right back to the point where it only works in good weather.

Go to the pinnacle page on apc and there's a link to a gouge there.
Very simple..no test..no sim..just be urself |

Thats what they are doing at Mesaba as well, we have had 3 or 4 realignment notices increasing captain slots and decreasing Saab FO slots but not creating secondary vacancies...so it didn't take long to go to the Pinnacle staffing plan over here...we will be running pretty slim until airplanes start going away in January |

So here's my question, at some point they will hire off the street but there will still be Mesaba guys who haven't been offered classes. Will the Mesaba guys who take classes AFTER the first off the street hires be slotted above the off the streets on Pinnacle's list based on their Mesaba Seniority. Example: Off the street guy A is hired Oct12 with another 20 off the street guys with him. Mesaba guy B is hired Nov12. Is Mesaba guy B senior to Off the street guy A and all his class mates at Pinnacle?

Don't come to Pinnacle expecting to be on reserve for little or no time. We have first officers who have been on reserve for 2-3 years now and all feel they have paid their dues. This is not to say we would like to see you sit reserve for just as long, but just to be somewhat sensitive over your expectations. |

The memorandum of understanding signed between Pinnacle and Mesaba states: Section 9 Furloughed Mesaba pilots who accept offers of employment by Pinnacle shall be placed on the Pinnacle Pilot Seniority List ("Seniority List") in order of their Mesaba seniority below all pilots who are on the Seniority List as of the date of signing this MOU. Such pilots shall be placed on the Seniority List above new hire pilots hired by Pinnacle who are not furloughed Mesaba pilots employed pursuant to this MOU. If, however, a furloughed Mesaba pilot declines an offer of Pinnacle employment and then accepts a subsequent offer of employment with Pinnacle, such pilot shall be placed on the Seniority List based upon the first date he attends Pinnacle pilot ground training, without regard to his relative seniority at Mesaba. The MOU also lets furloughed Mesaba pilots to keep their Mesaba recall rights. Some furloughed Mesaba pilots who have snubbed Pinnacle and Colgan's offer of employment seem to think they are going to be "recalled" for placement on an integrated seniority list at Pinnacle - which may or may not happen. Our MEC's have not yet officially spoken about integration methods... but if they do, off the street new hires will be held down if the furloughs do later decide to come to Pinnacle. |
