I was very close to bidding the jet upgrade myself. But the idea of commuting again sucks, So I’ll be one of the 5 in ground. We only have one class, they originally wanted two classes.

Edit: I know it will be hard with the union and all, but I can see management trying to throw some money in the form of a bonus to upgrade in the Q in the future. They don’t seem to have a hard time filling Q new hire classes, but once those people are on the line and building their time they see what life is like on the Q vs what they hear on the jet. Just my theory though, I have been in right field picking daisies before

Until the company recognizes and fixes the glaring QOL issues that plague the Q, they aren't going to get very many captains on it. If their plan is to continue to park Q's, they won't need to displace pilots or solve the attrition problem. It will solve itself. If they want to maintain the Q flying they will need to pay for it.

It's incredible how vastly different the experience is flying the Q at horizon vs. the jet. (hint: take the jet)

If I wasnt gonna be leaving in April(hopefully), I would be looking at moving to the jet. Sounds much better.

Just for some data I’ll share this.

I’m a PDX Q400 FO. This month was PM short call. Logged 1.5 hours.

Back on AM reserve next month so hopefully I fly more again.

Default This will NOT be hard for the union

This will not be hard for the union. The company has a hot line to ExCo if they want to re negotiate the bonus.
If the company wants to unilaterally change the bonus structure it will be a violation of the status quo. Previous misdeeds by the company have consequences.
BTW, reason the company doesn’t have an issue filling new hire classes is new hires have no choice if they want a job at QX in the near future.

0 dash upgrades for May. There isn't going to be much captain movement on this plane anymore...Not a good time to be stuck on reserve.

Our FO attrition is insane however, lots of people quitting because they certainly aren't upgrading or going to Alaska...there's FOs who have been here just about a year bidding top 10-20%. In the last pilot chat they mentioned FO attrition was 60% (whatever that means, no explanation given)

Seems like some extra coin could fix that.
Q captain bonus?
I was seriously considering QX, but with multiple others offering many more pesos...my SO would be saying, "Wait, you want to do what? - for how much?"

She would be supporting us by watching the neighbors 6-pk of kids.

I interviewed at QX, and got the CJO, even considered going to the Q for the big(ger) bonus before ultimately going somewhere else. And that wasn’t because I predicted the chaos that seems to have enveloped the whole Alaskan Air Group, just what I hoped was better timing elsewhere.

I am totally befuddled by what is occurring there, both at QX and at Alaska itself. There is either some brilliant plan that I’m somehow missing, someone playing chess while I’m playing checkers, or a disturbing amount of chaos reigning in what was once a pretty well run organization. I guess in time I’ll see which, but it’s a puzzle to me right now.
