Career expectations isn't a stand alone pillar used in ALPA M&A, however it is addressed in the Cat/Class section which takes into consideration, among other things, widebody flying, etc.

If I was to bet I think we tie up with ALK at some point or maybe HA.
Or we seem to be doing fine alone so maybe it keeps going.
Now if for some reason SWA tried to buy us that when I think you would see United or someone start driving up the price.
The really really crazy idea if Spirit was to go after us. They would have a massive FLL hub and be the ulcc uo against 1 major airline in BOS and JFK
Anyway unfortunately or fortunately we sit on some good assets so I think there will always be speculation.

). Out of all the merger partners I think this would emphasize our strengths (FLL) as opposed to trying to add something we dont have. The combined company would be 45% share in FLL, with SWA next at 20%. Thats on our way to fortress hub status particularly considering SWA will have limited international growth from FLL. There is a ton of potential for NK/B6 going southbound.

Yeah...I corrected myself in a later post. And you're mostly right. ALPA-ALPA has 2 things they look at:

You're wrong, again.
Here's the three tenets straight from the ALPA Merger Policy document:

Here's the full ALPA Merger Policy document:

I've been through 2 ALPA-ALPA mergers, both of which resulted in binding arbitration SLIs. Both arbitration final decisions quoted those exact 3 tenets, the 3 pillars of ALPA's merger policy.

Shy.....
You're right. I went back to my training manual I got years ago and there it was.

While the least important of the 3, career expectations will play a roll in asymmetric airlines such as JB and any of the big 3.
Thanks for keeping me honest, and honing my memory kills!

UAL had “career expectations” added after a failed America West merger, just before UAL tried to buy USAir. United had over 100 WB airplanes and USAir had 7.
Longevity was added by Brucia from CAL in 2009, since he was worried about the Widebody disparity between CAL and UAL and wanted more of a DOH integration, making him an instant WB Captain, if UAL bought CAL.
UAL isn’t buying anybody, not with 4,000 hires in the next 3 years, unless we buy a fragmented airline.

I’m with Saintnick here.
My career expectations currently are to retire in the top 5 of a narrow body and top 10% of our list for a decade.
Should we actually start flying Europe it’s flying 321LR type(read 757 size) aircraft to Europe in the top 5.
I’m not sure where the #5 narrowbody pilot is at United but I would venture to guess it’s actually not very senior. With the number of wide bodies they have narrow body goes pretty junior.
With all that said if we merge with United within a few years I guarantee I wouldn’t be driving to work anymore and that alone is worth not merging for me. I want no part of ANY merger. Just continued steady growth here please. Not sure how realistic that is, but that is my preference.
