“Training pay is worse at Spirit”
Well first off, half the instructors at JetBlue spent time in class dissing Spirit so clearly they think JetBlue is better (I did too), and Spirit’s training is notoriously short… I would be willing to bet pilots who started the same time as me at Spirit have made more than I have by now.
The training pay is something that should be addressed if JetBlue plans to keep filling classes with quality candidates. At least cap it. The regional I started at had training pay for the first 30 days after that it was min guarantee. Might be something to think about.
“You’re bad at financial planning”
Yea well, it’s hard to do financial planning in a pandemic. It’s hard to do financial planning when you’re told to expect 6 weeks on training pay and then you show up and half bid slots include a 3 week break. It’s hard to do financial planning when you have a training schedule and it gets delayed, and it’s especially hard to do financial planning when you pass your LOE and are expecting to finally get some line pay on your next check but it doesn’t happen, and they tell you they’ll get you back on the next one and THAT doesn’t happen. Then you’re told things like “the way our payroll is set up, we can’t pay you what we owe you” WTF does that mean? You can’t cut a check?
“Your situation won’t be made better by starting over”
All of the destinations I’m considering have line pay day 1, or training pay is much higher. Fighting for my pay check is a huge red flag, I have lost all faith in this company.
Honestly I regret coming to JetBlue… I put the app in Dec 2019, I did the virtual in Jan, and then the pandemic hit. Had I known my inbox would start filling up with invites to legacy carriers, had I known I was going to be treated like this, I would have stayed. So if you’re currently at a regional making PIC and you think this would be a good next step, my advice is to stay where you’re at. The legacies are hiring fast, you’ll hear something soon and you won’t have to endure a quarter of the year on almost no income.

I worked at places with both lower and higher training pay than JB, but it certainly still sucks. Like I said, I drove LYFT during training in MCO.
And yeah, we make fun of Spirit, because, you know, it's Spirit. (I have several of friends there).

I was hopeful you would stay and like it here, I tried to be helpful and encouraging. However, you have made it clear you'll never be happy here and always have a chip on your shoulder. Enjoy your legacy job, sounds like it shouldn't be any problem whatsoever getting hired. Hope you don't get furloughed.

Training pay/first year pay is also notoriously bad at UPS. Just like UPS, we (ALPA) have no control or say over it. Management sets that pay. It's their job to attract quality applicants. Unfortunately, it seems like their answer is the gateway programs, which in my opinion will only serve as a means to keep our wages lower than our peers. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Again, totally sucks. I worked at a regional after leaving an international job with a very sick family member. I planned on three months of training pay at $1800/month. Well, said regional was a train wreck and I was on training pay for NINE MONTHS. Nine months at $1800/month. I had to sell my car, sell my guest room furniture, and cancel my kids extracurriculars. I drove Lyft and delivered Instacart. No, you can't plan for it, but poop happens. I ended up with debt and more stress than I could handle at times. Find a way to manage. They WILL pay you. It will be made right. After three years here, I've made about five notes on my paycheck where I thought something was amiss. Twice I was underpaid by about an hour. Basically, no different than anywhere else.
Okay, you lost me here. Your inbox started "filling up with invites to legacy carriers"?? Color me suspicious. Well, there are only three total, and you used a plural, so all three legacies sent you invites? And you're here at JB? Complaining?? Something isn't adding up.

That being said I’m honestly tired of hearing the constant whining from millennial new hires who have been here for a few months and already complain about everything. While I’m also a millennial, I’ve been in the aviation business long enough to know there is no job security in this business, and the grass isn’t always greener.

Wow. Shame on you. Unfortunately this kind of out of touch mindset isn't uncommon in this pilot group, however.
This isn't a great first impression and leaves people wondering if they should expect the inexcusable for the rest of their career. It's no wonder new hires are scheduling interviews with United on their days off from OSC.

I hope people leave here for something that works best for them. If they leave here because they’re unexpectedly messed up training and pay during that time frame hoping other airlines never have issues is ridiculous. This guy or gal comes from Republic. I did too. I need more than one hand the times they screwed up my pay. I know many people mad about the training in spirit, United and the other legacies has hung their pilots more than once. So to leave thinking the other airlines are gonna treat you like a king or queen you feel you are is ridiculous. Be mad, figure it out, and move on. It’s wayyyy to early to be disgruntled. I know many that no matter where they’ve gone to they’re always disgruntled. It’s not the company it’s them.

We routinely share hotels with United, AA, and DAL.
This is one area I’ve been overall very pleased. They are every bit as good legacy, as we share hotels with them all the time.
Not to say there aren’t a few that folks avoid.

Most long stays are decent. Most short stays are standard short stays. Usually the same types of places as any other airlines…there are plenty of hotels that other airlines use (legacy/cargo/regional). Marriotts, Hiltons, Hyatt regencys, some Wyndhams, some alofts, some AC, some Omni, some embassy suites, some Hyatt place, some resorts in the vacation destinations, some Hilton garden inns, some courtyard by Marriott, some Sonestas, some Sheratons, some Westins, some Renaissance, maybe some Hampton inns but I haven’t seen those in a while, some residence inns, a couple doubletrees, I think there’s still one or two crowne plazas. Pretty varied mix, none are too terrible. Based on what my buddies at legacies have said, I don’t think theirs are markedly better, but I don’t have all their hotel info, so hard to really know for sure.

I don’t overnight much, but from afar it seems like the properties have gotten better since Covid started. Hopefully there’s not a direct correlation between slower travel during a pandemic and better crew hotels though.

Yes the hotels are very good for the most part, and as good as the legacies in many cases. There’s a few exceptions that aren’t so good though. The SF short stay Double Tree I could do without. I’m not crazy about ALofts either
