We have to have 1 JB option that gets us to work at least 1 hour prior 2 report OR 2 Other Airline options getting us there at least 1 hour early. So long as you have proof you were listed (boarding pass or myIDtravel and checked in) if the flight is cancelled for whatever reason you’re not going to get called to the carpet. I sent screen shots and explanation and heard nothing about it when it happened to me. CS asked if I was still coming and wanted to put me on RSV, I said no thanks and they took my PTO for the trip but wasnt in “trouble” and didnt go against the dependability policy.

Thank you, much appreciated!

Ok, so what I find absolutely hilarious, if the purpose of the commuter policy is make sure you are in position for your flight, shouldn't the policy be 1 other airline flight or 2-3 planned JetBlue flights?

No. We run late, but we have a really high completion factor. It should be 1 JB flight that arrives at least 4 hours prior to your report time.

Default Advice for new hire bid

I have a class date soon, and am looking for info to help decide on what equipment to bid.

Background: I live in NYC and am old (probably high seniority within my class). I value QOL (number of days off, and ability to bid for certain days off).

1. I know 220s are in BOS only. Has it been announced which base will get 220s next? If it is JFK, how soon are 220s expected to arrive there?

2. How long is equipment (seat) lock for new hires? If I choose JFK320 or JFK190, would this be waived if 220s come to JFK? (If not, would bidding BOS220FO be the only way to get to JFK220FO when it opens?)

3. The most junior JFK190CA at the moment has been with the company how long?

4. I hate red-eyes. How often in a month does a junior JFK320FO typically fly red-eyes? I am guessing that bidding for the 190 is the only way to avoid them altogether?

5. Any advice from current NYC pilots on QOL. Do JFK320FO and JFK190FO typically get the same number of days off?

Thanks in advance for the info.

No idea if/when the A220 will be based in JFK, but based on current flying trends I think it’ll be soon and the next announced A220 base.

My only concern for you is that you seem pretty locked in on flying the A220 one day but also state that you hate red-eyes. I think you’ll have to choose one or the other until you become senior enough to avoid them.

If you hate red-eyes and like QOL, do JFK 190 until you’re more senior on JFK 220 once it comes out, or 320. Equip lock is 1 year for new-hires. No red-eyes on the 190, faster seniority progression, faster time to a line, more broken trips and therefore more money to be made with premium and such while on the same pay rate.

The downside is the training backlog that may or may not exist when you go through. 190 seems worse than the other 2 planes. But at least pay is cutover at 45 days regardless, so it’s not a huge financial deal anymore.

I personally hate the 190 though. Plane sucks. Trips suck. Overnights aren’t all that great (some are okay). For a year or 2 it’s not bad. Especially compared to to schedules of junior bus guys. QOL inside the plane and while at work sucks (high workload northeast regional flying with a bit of Florida and Caribbean thrown in), but the schedule and money is good. No time zone changes. Lots of open premium stuff, especially if you’re local.

If I was a local I’d probably fly the 190 until it went away to maximize pay/time off. Locals absolutely kill it with premium. 120-240+ credit a month for the hustlers. And if you don’t want to do that, you can just fly your line, which you’ll have a lot more control over on the 190 than 320 for a few years.

You mentioned more broken trips on the 190, would that mean the 220/320 would be a harder commute since there aren’t as many broken trips?

This terminology is new to me. What is a "broken trip"? How does "more broken trips" equate to more money to be made with premium? Does it mean you get paid extra while flying a trip if the trip is broken? Or does it mean more extra flying is available to be picked up?

Lots of helpful info in your post. So comparing pros and cons:
(con) I personally hate the 190 though. Plane sucks. Trips suck.
(con) QOL inside the plane and while at work sucks
(pro) faster seniority progression, faster time to a line
(pro) the schedule and money is good. No time zone changes.
(pro) Lots of open premium stuff ... Locals absolutely kill it with premium
If I was a local I’d probably fly the 190 until it went away to maximize pay/time off.
So to sum up, it sounds like most aspects of the 190 suck, but if you were new and local, you would choose the 190, because you could earn more and get more days off.

A jb friend showed me a list of NYC FO open time trips (extra flying available to be picked up for extra pay). On that particular day, there were twice as many available on the 320 as on the 190. Would choosing the 190 really maximize pay?
