He did sound very serious about this. He mentioned the failed VA purchase to which he said today to the tune of “we aren’t talking about 50 planes with a California presence, this is hundreds of planes with an extensive order book, with a national presence”. Basically as bad as we may have wanted VA, we want NK much more.
JBLUs 190s are all gone by 2026 and there aren’t any orders after 2025. JBLU wants to go all Airbus fleet and the order book for Airbus is long and established (that’s what she said). I don’t know how JBLU grows without buying an airline with aircraft on order and pilots ready to fly them.

How much would it cost to paint, put TVs, Wifi, and retrofit the spirit planes? Over how long? What do you tell the customers that were expecting a certain amount of legroom or wifi on a plane? Do we not lose spirit customers by having to raise prices due to the above? Do we not lose Jetblue customers by not offering the things we used to? I think all the questions above cost a lotttt of money. Still baffled by the big offer by JetBlue. Gutsy move. Other than expecting to get shafted on seniority integration I am very curious of what happens with JetBlue in the next 10 years.

Yeah but you can't replace the 60% of people here with the mindset that 3% of pay, and probably 1.5% of pay or less after taxes, is worth giving up job protections and potential expansion into Europe.

JetBlue investor conference call regarding the deal, posted online.
This was discussed in the call as well. They acknowledge the cost but won’t say how much. They are selling the idea that Spirit passengers just don’t travel on price but also convenience if routes, so this brings more opportunities for them (I know, weak). They were very murky on the details of how to get the planes changed over without affecting operations
Your CEO and CFO don’t seem as confident as you. One of the main things they kept addressing is their lack of orders, the retiring of the 190s and how hard it is to get planes right now. This was said over and over. I’m sure they can get Airbuses from Airbus…maybe in 2030. Like it or not, you want new planes with new engines, that comes with Spirit. Ursula and Robin made this clear

If they actually were unable to get Airbuses, when they wanted them, they would have placed an order already to get them later, they wouldn't just GIVE UP! Think about it! You want Airbuses in 2026, Airbus says you can't have any until 2028, and JB says no thanks?!?
Recognize when you are being manipulated and being subject to the dog and pony show. If the merger happens, you will be better prepared for this company if you learn the management style now.

You don't understand the dog and pony show. They are selling and explaining... If they wanted more Airbuses, they would place a follow-on order. They know when their deliveries run out, and when they would need to place an order to get more. They literally have a bat phone that directly connects them to Airbus.

Well there goes the whole Europe thing regardless. I was once excited to expand to Europe, Hawaii, and the Deep South. Maybe even thought about heavies. Now the focus will be domestic and figuring out the clusterfuk that will be merging with such a different product.
