Joint company and ALPA pairing survey.
Go do it. The pairings are awful.
You would think the 6 month backlog of fatigue call reviews would be enough of a wake up call for the company but apparently they need us to spell it out for them.

And yes, agree, the pairings are atrocious.

Done as well. I'm hoping people actually do this survey and something positive comes from it.

I agree. Each base needs and wants different things.
mco is a 95% local base. FLL 90+. I don’t want 4-5 days. I want productivity over commutability. I want to stop flipping circadian rhythms.

This is a wild idea, but I'd love to see a virtual domicile just for commuters where they could only bid commutable 4-5day trips, but could bid from any base. One week you do a BOS 4 day, then a JFK 4 day the week after, etc.

What prevents the junior guy who lives in central PA and drives 3 hrs to NY from getting a 4 day trip in LAX?

Once you had enough seniority you could bid in and get both JFK and EWR 4day trips if you wanted.
It isn't a perfect system at all, but considering the vast majority of our 4-5day trip desires are from those who commute by plane then maybe it would be something to consider. It would relieve the company from base pairing distribution parameters, which should drive more productive 1-2-3 day trips as well as more commutable 4-5day trips. It would give pilots who commute by plane more options for bidding and trading trips.
We group pilots who live near BOS into one bid status, same with every other base, but for those who are not geographically tied to a single base we still force them to chose one airport when in fact there could be multiple airports they are able to commute to without much difference.

It would be a small voluntary opt-in bid. If you were junior and unable to hold all JFK 4 day trips then you wouldn't bid into the virtual domicile.

That was before my time. Can you expand why it was a disaster and how this would be replicating earlier mistakes?
For the sake of this concept, a pilot would still need to retain a real base for the purposes of vacation, recurrent, etc.
