Look at this week. Another meltdown. This is the definition of insanity. The solution is simple. Diversify. ATC & WX. We’re held hostage. LGB and trans con redeyes didn’t generate that much. But our entire model is based on heavy aircraft utilization. We’d get 20hrs a day out of an Airbus. It kills me to keep doing this over and over. I look at all the terminals and we’re so outdated. We offer service to so many places with one flight. Our chance to win a costumer. .Look at the open time for a holiday weekend. Every trip should be premium

Wishing you the best of luck. Life is too short to be unhappy. How many years of seniority are you leaving behind?

18 I know it’s hard to believe. I’m an FO still too. Quality of life has gone down as I’ve become more senior. When I saw a check airman leave with 18 years, I knew I wasn’t crazy. The insanity of these IROPs is nuts. I have 19 years to 65. I’m only half way there. I just can’t picture working for this place that long. I think we go bankrupt before we get bought. We’re just a tier above spirit. Too toxic to trust. Personally for me its never been about money.

And when you flew it wasn't ALWAYS battling weather up and down the east coast.
Can you guys just imagine that?
I sometimes think that could be worth taking a pay cut. I don't think it's crazy at all, especially for a commuter.

Even if things improve here I doubt you’ll ever look back and wish you stayed.
Do you have an interview lined up? I know it’s getting harder to get on these days and you might still be looking at well over a year before you’re sitting in class. This might give you enough time to reassess either way.

Way too many pilots seem to let their job define them. They let their carrier define them, and they get all bent out of shape if they don’t like what they see. Like “if I’m not at carrier X, I’ll be miserable,” or “because I’m at carrier Y, I’ve failed.” It’s an unrealistic outlook, and it’s super toxic, especially when you think about what a real 40+ hour 9-to-5 looks like, and what their careers are like.
Take the interview, man. If you get it, check back in in 2 years and tell us if it’s that big a difference. It wouldn’t be for me, but I’m not you, and only you can make you happy.

I often think about what it would be like to work for a carrier where when you showed up for your pairing, you just flew your pairing, on time, more or less as scheduled, every time.
And when you flew it wasn't ALWAYS battling weather up and down the east coast.
Can you guys just imagine that?

The difference is the security. He's not waking up in the morning wondering if his company is going to exist in the next few years. That's the primary reason I would want to leave. The money? We're not THAT far off from the legacies, and an extra $20k-$30k/yr isn't going to be life changing at our income level. Knowing I work for a strong company with a secure future is the difference between us and them. When I was hired here, the company had a very promising future. Now it feels like any news we get is consistently negative which absolutely kills morale. DL/UA/AA are all too big to fail now IMO. We are not.
