I really don't understand our recruiting department. They seem to have things squared away and then a few different people get in there and the whole process gets screwed up. Why would you call someone if you don't plan on bringing them in to interview? Why get their hopes up? They have all your information on your application. If they're asking additional questions in the phone interview than what's on the application why not just put those questions on the app? I understand getting clarification on a question or two from an individual and not liking the answers but from what's been posted above this is happening to a number of guys. Do we now have 4 phases? Did we have 3 phases before? I still haven't gotten notification I passed phase 2 from 3 years ago so maybe I should shut up.
It's JetBlue!!!!!

They are using the phone screening as an additional chance to evaluate the applicant. If an applicant thinks it's just a few questions and not a part of the process they can "fail" they should think again.
For those applying:
Every time you interact with a recruiter it's a jeopardy event. Treat a phone screening as an interview. Good luck!

They are squared away! up to the point where applicants say they don't have training failures on their app and they do, say they have a degree and don't, resume says their objective is to work at Southwest.....I could go on and on......maybe they are holding professionalism to a higher stand which is a great thing. Allowing those that want to be here to succeed and have the chance you want them to and able to work here? My 2 cents.

I didn't have any false or misleading information on my app and I'm in the no thanks email club. I wasn't asked any HR questions over the phone other than why JetBlue, which I thought I answered pretty well. Everything else was just verifying flight times and employment eligibility.
There had to be something... Sorry you got the TBNT. What was your "why JetBlue" answer?

I told him that I love the culture. They tend to hire the crew members that I've enjoyed flying with the most. These are the type of captains that I hoped to be like someday. I told him that I thought I'd fit in well here. I also told him that I liked the Orlando base and commuting options out of JAX for BOS and JFK. He asked me if I could get 3 internal letters of rec for my interview. I got 5 before receiving my TBNT email.

However, I cannot give the recruiting department the benefit of the doubt on this. so far three different people have gotten a thanks but no thanks from the phone interview. I'd never heard of one person in the past 3 years getting a TBNT from a phone interview. Now if someone is omitting something or saying they want to work at southwest obviously get rid of them. But as one of them has posted that's not the case. If professionalism is the desire of our recruiting department I expect the same from them. Stringing guys along for months in phase 2, with absolutely no communication, just to send a TBNT email or phone call is not professional. Giving guys a TBNT email from a phone interview that asks one question is not professional.
This was my fourth airline interview and I have been hired for a number of different jobs outside aviation and our process is by far the worst. I will say everyone I've personally met involved in the process have been great, HR side and pilot side. I just think the system is flawed.

The commuting/base options is what killed your answer, I'm betting.
