JetBlue Latest and Greatest
Far be it for to criticize.
Their current fleet is around 170, 24 are being returned this year and different 69 until 2030. Essentially Jetblue would be purchasing current aircraft and, perhaps, an additional order book.
DEN, MCO and ATL are their biggest bases with, up to, 80 flights per day much of which is seasonal. Extremely limited infrastructure (like spirit) and opposite culture (like spirit) so to me that purchase/merger/acquisition would be solely about aircraft.
Could it work? Good question. The Star Alliance part could be helpful but management continue to state that isn't in the plans. In the end wiith current Jetblue management I just don't see it.

I think it is fair to say JB would find benefit in diversifying away from PW NEOs.
And yes F9 doesnt have preferential gates anywhere except DEN, but small scattered bases would be a feature not a flaw here. The plan wouldn’t be to build a DFW base rivaling AA, but just to build something similar to our LAX/EWR sized bases, but in legacy hubs and focusing on high demand routes to augment existing UA service.
Would F9 be a more attractive option for carriers if you were earning Star alliance miles and had a more traditional first/economy cabin layout?
I think JG would stay around to see out the UA codeshare and star alliance membership stuff, then MSG takes over the CEO role for the merger and lead the combined company. This would be all about turning F9 into JB. Again, this is mostly fan fiction stuff and I’m not holding my breath here. Just trying to think of alternative plans. The most widely anticipated merger is usually the one that doesn’t happen.
Jetblue has zero capex for anything other than keeping the lights on, and finishing projects already in motion. Our credit is hanging in by a thread, and the bank vault has a hole in the back. There will be zero buying, of any airline by jetblue. The only path is, bankruptcy or somebody decides to make a move. Unless oil retreats rapidly standalone will be painful.

We offer very little to UA. We are a single mom with three kids, a substance abuse problem and a complicated relationship with our exes.
