Not for military needs.

Maybe ? Are we adding a 777 program? Yes.

Latest RUMINT is we bid for additional 777 flying from DHL (3-4 planes worth I think); hence the prep. If we get it, and my inside guy said the Magic 8 ball says ‘signs point to yes’, they want us operating ASAP and we’re actually behind on crewing it. Rumor caveats apply.

I don’t know...it has its niche and it’s economical if you can get one used and do your own mx. It’s bad ass too.

The converted 744s will be the first to go. Heavier = less payload at a higher fuel burn.

Of even more importance to some shippers is the loss of several tall pallet positions with a BCF.

Supposedly a Bid’s in...

I am guessing it’ll be a slow but inexorable transition to the 777, you can’t deny the efficiency and fuel is king. But the Whale will always have a niche with the nose-loading capes. I’ll wager Connie is circling like a hawk, waiting for someone to park some -8s.

A few more questions from a new hire:

1. How is training on the 747? I have Boeing experience, and come from the 121 world. When I read the thread in the cargo section about Atlas, Southern, or other ACMI operators washing out new hires, it gives me pause. If I put in the effort - and I know in the ACMI world, a lot more effort is required - will positive results be there?

2. How many more classes are they holding this year?

3. Any other advice as I get ready to start class. Really looking forward to joining you guys.

1 - If you want to get through training they will work with you until the bitter end. The training department here is fantastic. The best of the 3 airlines I have been with.

2 - No idea, but previously was every 3 weeks, 16 person classes. I had heard they dropped the classes to half the size and possibly only 767 recently.

3 - The training program absolutely works. You can come in with 0 prep and pass first attempt no problem. Just follow their plan. If I had to choose something to prep ahead I'd do limitations and systems for the Knowledge Validation 3 weeks in.

Good luck and welcome!

I can only speak to #1. Seems like you have a good understanding of what is about to happen to you....so you'll be good. It gets real after the first FTD session. But you'll buckle down and get it done. Nearly everybody does.
