word of advise- Don't base your decision solely on a number (GS11) pay, which is an entry level starting point. If you apply yourself, you could easily get promoted to 12, then 13 within 2 years. Where else can you earn a decent wage, good benefits, job security, and holidays off?? Also Look at the GS-14, Step 10 wages for your locality.

I guess my referral was from FAA-AMH-14-GAO-32271 and not the most recent vacancy announcment. They were hiring at 9-12, but I was offered GS11. Sounds like GS12 would be fast though.

I got picked up as an 11 back in '06. Appx 120 days later promoted to 12. (Very motivated to get my OJT done). A year after that-13. Then 2 years later (varies) but minimum 1 year in each lower grade, got a promotion to 14.
It can take 18 years to go from a Step 1 to Step 10 (Max) within Grade, but there are some ways to make that go quicker.
Some Light reading:
FAA HRPM/HROI
"Core Compensation" (pay for performance) vs OPM.GOV FG/GS-XX pay scales
Example- FV-1825-J (equivalent to 14) "tops out" higher than GS-14 Step 10. These are typically Supervisory or Technical "Staffer" Region or HQ positions... Many are remotely sited, meaning you can live pretty much anywhere...

Guys I just applied for the latest round of 1825's even though I showed referred for the NJ openings, my question is I just looked at my 'application status' for the GA jobs and it now shows 'reviewed' does anyone know what that means in the grand scheme of things?
Thank you for your help!

Normal progression of USA Jobs apps:
-Received (app submitted successfully)
-Referred (you made the interview list)
-Phone call for interview
-Phone call for flight check
-Phone call "you're hired"
All others get the dreaded "Not Hired" automated notification after being "Referred" for several months (patiently waiting).
If you get "Reviewed", it may or may not be a good thing. I got that once (few years ago) and when I clicked on the "more info" tab, it said I was found to be "ineligible for the position".
Keep applying to every announcement you believe you are qualified for. Remember that HR person (initial reviewer) most likely IS NOT a pilot. You cannot assume that the reviewer understands all the acronyms. Explain your qualifications in the Essay portion (KSA's) carefully and completely. Also, get smart about Safety Management Systems (SMS). Read and learn FAA AC 120-92B.

I would call the FAA aviation careers number listed on the vacancy and ask them your question. They were very helpful when I called with this exact issue. I reapplied when the latest vacancy was posted, even though I currently have an interview scheduled for a differnt location. This should increase the likelihood of you getting an interview, but who know how the FAA works. Good luck!
Thanks again for the help?
Also, could you please pass along any information on the flight check I sure would appreciate it!!
