Realistically, IB isn't that bad, lots of people stay there because they don't know what else to do. Used to work out real well for Indoc flight training, because it IS right next to WP airport, where they used to do that, but that's in the past now. Lots of people would go to IB because they had free dinner or something, so they'd save some per-diem. The long-term per diem is pretty low though, but the cost of living in OKC is also pretty low. It's possible you could say somewhere a little better/closer/nice and being paying a little out of pocket, which wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing if the difference was just a couple dollars. Most people (hopefully!) are going to buy groceries and cook, so you're looking for a place with a kitchen more than anything IMO.

Anyone here know if being a Part 141 Stage Check Examiner (Instructor) would allow someone to be considered to be GS-11? In regards to flight school ops it says your considered GS-11 if you were a Chief Flight Instructor, Assistant Chief Flight Instructor, or Check pilot. So basically is a check pilot in the same category as a Stage Check Examiner? Thanks in advance!

I know of at least two ASI's that are young (30ish) and have Part 141 experience only. No Corporate, Part 135, 121 and zero jet experience. They got hired at GS-11 and are now GS-14's. I would think that if you meet the basic quals, you have a good chance.

I actually have heard of something similar with other new guys that have been hired in my area. However, when filling out the app you need to state whether your a GS-9, GS-12, etc etc in regards to your experience and I'm almost certain that the applications get filtered in regards to what GS category certain FSDOs are looking for. What are your thoughts on that? Don't get how you can be hired on as a GS-11 if you don't even meet GS-11 quals......

Apply for the lowest grade you are willing to accept. Be careful what you wish for! I can almost guarantee you if you select GS-9, that's what you will be hired in as. Let the HR folks determine your eligibility. I wouldn't worry too much because the agency is having a very hard time filling vacancies right now due to the current "hiring boom". Your chances are very good at the moment.
