A-320 Type Rating
#11
Those who provide type rating training of course will tell you otherwise and infer a competitive advantage in the job market by having a type rating. Without relevant experience in type, that simply is not the case.

Also, it has been said, but having a type rating with NO time in type will probably not get you a job, as most want to see 'time in type' (especially a requirement for overseas jobs). The only place that a type 'may' (and still not a requirement for a job offer), is SWA; and many have been offered a job w/o the type. Not sure what a A-320 type will get you with No time in type, especially since it probably costs about $10-12K. At least the 737 probably only costs about half that, but not sure of the price, (reference above, I'm NOT buying anything)
As a side note, many who have bought the B-737 type to try to get on with SWA, and interview with other airlines were asked; "so a 737 type, with no time in type, so when is your interview with SWA." I have personally know of a few who have been asked that question. Not sure if it will keep you from getting a job, but what's an employer to think; are you going to quit/leave as soon as you get the call??
Just my $0.02, now continue with your current 'rant'

I just talked to some jet airways guys, along with one fellow flying cargo out in China. A lot og guys are getting hired with 0 time in type. The kicker is you have to have SOME experience flying bigger airplanes. If not there is f/o positions also. Southwest doesn't determine other airline hiring practices. A type never hurts a pilot. If you only want to fly in the states, take a number---your time will come.

This is not the right forum to talk about paying for a type rating. Try www.pprune.org It is the biggest pilot forum in the world at the moment, you will find tons of information how to obtain a cheap type rating. This forum is mostly for US pilots and in US you usally get picked up by the airlines and airlines pay type rating for you. But if you are talking of the international market then yes, the operator USUALLY don't sponser you a TR, you have to pay it yourself and the downside is that some companies require 500 time on type THAT IS THE MAGIC NUMBER. There are few cheap places in Florida (miami) that offer A320 TR around 10k. I suggest you do a search on google and find out the name.
If you need more help let me know!!!

A lot of companies out there are preying on the ignorance of many pilots, trying to get them to spend thousands on a type rating they don't even need. As all of us can see, most pilots here didn't spend a hair on their rear-end to get a type rating. Let the company pay for it! Why pay for something your going to get on the companys' dime anyway? If you want an advantage, just purchase the A320 ops manual and save yourself the thousands on the type rating.
