Jumpseater Bag Fees on Spirit & Frontier???

No matter if there are 100 seats open, they won't release the jump until 10 prior. They wont sometimes even tell you there are others listed before you.
Gate Agents, oh those gate agents. Im talking about the 75 year old ones that work those special airports who are straight up mean. You better have listed or they will tell you to step away from their counter. Ran over from another flight? Don't care, you better list on your phone over in that corner.
Speaking of the CA asking for your medical. I remember some years back when they passed the "Under 40, first class needed every year vs 6 months." The CA looks at my medical and says "this is expired, you have an expired medical, its 8 months old and its no longer valid as a First Class medical". (I did not want to get into the fact that it doesn't expire but simply downgrades the privileges to either a 2nd or 3rd class). I said "no, its good...they changed the law and because I'm under 40, the First Class medical privileges are valid for 12 months." He shakes his head and says "I don't remember ever hearing about that, hey Joe (First Officer) have you heard about this?" I look at the FO and watch as the 64.5 year old FO says "Nope, never heard of it."

Had a great time jumpseating on Spirit. Many great crews. Actually showed up to the gate 30 prior and asked if they can list me. Agent told me I had to list online. I told them that I had tried but the flight was no longer listed. Told me it was because they closed it out but they will re-open it so I can list and then close it again. Made it home that night because of them.

They charged my wife a carry on fee for a bag she was carrying. I was in uniform and JS and asked the gate agent if we could count it as one of my bags. She said no and charged her $60. In front if everybody my wife turns to me and says never work for this airline. I replied, no problem.

After an exchange like that in front of our guests I would have been inclined to leave you right there. Non revs get a checked and carry on for free. Those allowances are often bent to the advantage of the non rev. Your wife was on a paid ticket and those rules are not able to be bent by the agent. It puts them very much at risk of discipline. Expecting them to do so is poor form on your part. Letting your wife badmouth the airline you are getting a free ride on is really poor form. A quick “hunny, the rules are the rules, I appreciate the ride and we are still way ahead because of it” would have been acceptable if for some reason living in an airline family she somehow doesn’t understand the nuances of you flying for free. Agreeing with her means you certainly don’t understand it either.
I remember an Endeavor pilot jumpseating on us (Spirit) one day and I put him in a big front seat. When we landed the FA told me that the pilot was bad mouthing Spirit the entire time to another passenger. Oh how I wish I knew this during the flight. The nerve of someone sitting in a free big front seat, on a free flight, flying an RJ no less, talking bad to a paying customer.
It just blows my mind how clueless some people can be.
And to the posters wife who got hit for a $60 bag on a paid ticket, thanks for your business. Love that extra ancillary revenue from people who don’t follow the rules.

It’s getting close to the end of the year and our good friend Hoover here is really making a run for that “tool of the year” award.
What kind of ego maniac acts like this while simultaneously asking for a free ride? The jumpseat is a privilege, not a right.
He probably got onboard and demanded free food and drinks as well.
