Late to the party, but....

This. Is. Absolutely. Not. Happening. Ever.

For so many reasons, but first and foremost the RLA doesn't allow labor groups at different companies to be in the same union and thereby possibly strike multiple (or all) companies in a transport sector.

There's a reason that ALPA is an Association, and not ALPU. It's basically a social club and clearing-house for a lot of individual unions.

You can do it while also preserving each MEC. And does the RLA really disallow it? Where does it say that? But I agree that it’ll never happen for several other reasons.

I was told that it does, by a guy who should know. I can't quote chapter and verse.

It’s just a bad idea. On so many levels. Can we just leave it at that? Especially the baseline cornerstone numbers part. You want to set a low bar and go up from there? That’s basically the opposite of what’s done in real negotiations.

The more I think about this, I'm almost convinced we should go back to deregulation days. You know, back to the golden days of aviation. It seems like post-deregulation is when the industry (and profession) went downhill.

Couldn't we just simply honor other airlines pilots seniority ? Like just make reciprocal agreements from one group to another?

It seems like this would be really beneficial at the Regionals where the majors like to shift carriers around to different bases every few years. Most pilots would rather stay in the same base.

However the airline managements wouldn't like this at all, they like that first year pay discount. We would have to make concessions to make up the cost difference to them.

But I don't see why any other radical restructuring of the Industry or labor laws would have to happen.

Wouldn't it just be a matter of one union signing an agreement with another?

I’m for it just to see a PSA flow tell a Delta captain that he doesn’t do walk arounds in the rain.

Why not just start from this point forward that day 1 of your first 121 checkride, you can apply for a universal seniority number? Those of us already here a in the gig don’t benefit and I have no solution. But the newbies at least can begin to work together on bare minimum items.

Because a 121 slot at a bottom end regional is not comparable to being hired at a legacy or top notch freight outfit.
Like being picked up by a farm league as opposed to the majors.
