Alpa has been successful in forcing carriers to hire furloughed pilots in the past. Part of cal getting ATA’s 757 required them to hire ata pilots. Skywest was forced to hire xjt pilots 2004ish for cal to get around xjt scope. I’m sure there’s many other examples. Point is there’s mechanisms and practices in place for that already. I’m not sure we need a NSL to accomplish the same thing. Anyhow, I agree it makes for an interesting discussion.

I for one would prefer this sort of arrangement, wouldn't you? Lots of people I fly chose to work at the first Legacy that called them. It's not like we really care to see we work for Delta vs. AA, etc. It doesn't matter as long as they're paying us good money to do it.
I also do not care to deal with the nefarious departments pilots are forced to deal with. Wouldn't it be nice for us not to deal with scheduling or the CPO? I'd rather go through the Union for all these things.

Their MEC has supported it in the past. Maybe I can find their resolutions about this from years ago. But I assume it had a more altruistic reason and not something like you are alluding to.

Maybe it’s better suited for regional airlines. Something similar to that was “attempted” years ago among ALPA regional MECs. I think some of the Canadian regionals actually have something in place that is similar.

Specific mec’s support all kinds of craziness when it fits their agenda. They also supported b scales in the past but nobody is crying for that to make a comeback. Altruistic. Now that’s funny.
