"Of the people" seems to be lost on some.

That was a marketing term. The "people" never got to vote on ratifying the Constitution.

"Consent of the goverened" is a good idea but most people haven't consented either.

When is the Constitution up for section 6? I hope we get some QoL gains.

Every citizen has the right to vote in elections of our representatives and the Constitution has been amended 27 times. Judging by immigration and the US economy it would seem a relatively desireable system. If you know of a more successful one please share it with us.

Do you consider yourself a patriotic American?

You're one weird dude. I don't know where you come up with some of your theories on government.

And I say this as a staunch MAGA supporter and stict constitutionalist.

sonic has a point. You’re born into the system without your consent, and there’s no way to opt out. Your “consent” is automatic and irrevocable.

now, sonic is completely ignoring that he doesn’t actually want to give up the benefits of society, only his obligation to it. The point remains, however, that there is nowhere on earth you can go to opt out.

in America, opting out has been erased through vagrancy laws (actually a super cool history of racism in action—check out the behind the bastards podcast’s multi-part series on the subject). You can trade one consent for another by emigrating, but you cannot refuse to consent anywhere.

Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Power on a sliding scale corrupts proportionally.

Government, by nature of it's inherent power, is inherently evil (it can't help itself). It is of course a necessary evil, but needs to minimized to the greatest practical extent, and carefully monitored.

Anyone feel like Sonic is one of those dudes on YouTube getting his window smashed in by the cops while crying about his ‘right to travel’?

Everyone thinks that their particular proclivities are the necessary. It’s a meaningless platitude
