In reality... any number can be seen as discriminatory and I'm just having a chuckle on account of those applying emotional arguments about "money grab" as if it's supposed to somehow shame people? In other words, it's a money grab by both sides. Call spade a spade.

And FO's are clueless and incapable, right?
You better believe it's a money grab. Why should the "boomers" care about you or your money or power? Clearly you don't care about them, so the feeling must be mutual. But really, why should someone else's money grab matter to you? Is it about fairness to you perhaps? Genuinely curious...

My response was in reference to a previous post about us losing the wealth of knowledge of our old timers by keeping it 65. Which is complete garbage, as you pointed out.
How is this a money grab for me?…with one year upgrades, I will leave money on the table by keeping it 65.
Here is the reason…we both got shafted by 65. Now you believe it is your god given right to hammer someone else for your gain because it happened to you.
It’s about me saying, I’m not so self centered and selfish that I want to shaft those junior to me, even though I got completely hosed by 65. I’m going to leave those below me in a better position than I was afforded. It’s called integrity.
I’m not jealous and/or entitled enough to take advantage of those junior to me. The proponents of 67 are, and you know it.

Well I do need to acknowledge that at least you are honest.

Do you care that the old fart sitting next to you lost his pension? How about lost 50+ percent of his pay? Do you care that he spent years on furlough? Do you care that once recalled, he spent far more time in the right seat than you ever care to? I don't see your altruism shining to make those folks whole, but I do see emotional garbage arguments to get them out of the way of your perfect, trouble-free career. Bottom line, is it a money grab? Yep. By you and yours, and by them just the same.
But emotional manipulation and name-calling are pretty funny even though they don't work and literally no one gives a damn. But not all is lost, though. Perhaps you can take your Mother Teresa mindset and donate a good chunk of your pay to help offset the years of hardship those senior to you had to endure so they'll want to leave at 65? Just a thought... 😜

Seen people who shoulda been out well before 60. At the same time, seen some sharp cookies that hit mandatory retirement and they could fly circles around most of us.

That's great. Good for you. It's so nice to be so altruistic given 1 year upgrades and 35-40 year career in the left seat. And you must be just that good that generations of pilots before you just sucked so badly they couldn't do what you did, and those pathetic jackwagons are just selfish money-grabbers without integrity... 🙄

One year upgrades are a product of poor planning by airlines. They've KNOWN this was coming since the end of the 2020s but chose to do nothing about it. Yes, seniority for people hired between 2014 and 2021 is pretty historic but that also aligns perfectly with an historic retirement boom. Those hired at Delta today will not be seeing anything remotely resembling the seniority progression of those hired 5 years ago. So, just like you shouldn't base career projections based on those pilots hired at the beginning of a wave, you also shouldn't base career projections based on that relatively small percent of pilots that have had the worst progression due to their hire dates of 2000-2002. Sucks for them, but, they'll have had PLENTY of time to make up their "lost" pensions and have a comfortable, although not lucrative, retirement.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out that those hired today won’t have a career remotely resembling that of those hired 3 years ago. Or of those hired 30 years ago either.

You KNOW one year upgrades won’t last. Most pilots junior to you will experience furlough, chapter 7, crew compliment reduction, and less purchasing power (housing, education, Miata’s) over the course of their life. The lost pension bunch CANT assume that without being disingenuous.

So what's your point? We should feel sorry for them and not look out for number 1 because... what? They care about us? Some utopian fairness? What? They want better schedule, bigger aircraft, and those senior to them are an obstacle. Those at the top of the seniority list want to stay there as long as possible and reap the most for themselves as possible. Yep... greed and money grab from both sides. That's how the world works.
Let's not pretend to be altruistic, selfless and caring, particularly when it comes to one's career compensation because that's for people not rooted in reality and/or smooth-talking emotional blackmailers. And I'm talking about both sides of the argument.

You know that the Pilot shortage is over, right? Most of the regionals are talking about possibly resuming a year from now. Freight haulers stopped hiring, with one looking to shed pilots. Most LCC's have either stopped, scaled back, with one looking to shed pilots. The big 3 have scaled back, with one having stopped. There's no Pilot shortage.
