Default Credit Checks

Credit checks are becoming much more common in all areas of life where people are being evaluated.

Well than I guess me and most of my peers living off of $20.00 and hour with hundreds of dollars of debt for college and flight school are irresponsible...................

Having debt isn`t irresponsible. Not paying your bills, having a bankruptsy, garnishment of wages is. The fact that most of the majors are in or have been in bankruptsy has nothing to do with carefull hiring practices.

I didn't say that. I was in the same boat. I had tons of student loan debt and credit card debt. I was literally living hand to mouth and making minimum payments on everything, but I always paid my bills on time. Your debt to income ratio is only a small part of the equation used to figure your credit scores. As long as your score is average, and they don't see a lot of defaults or child-support garnishments, you are ok.

BTW, you are kidding yourself if you feel that you can't look at a credit report and see a person that is responsible or not responsible. It's not rocket science. I had an obscenely high interest rate with discover for years. I paid them off and told them to take a hike. I lectured them on how they screwed me over the years. They offered me a 3.9% rate for six months, and we'll revisit the rate then. Guess what, I don't need them now. I use the card and pay my bill at the end of the month. If they don't give me the 3.9 again, they will be told to take a hike.

I hope my words are not taken out of context again ...

Well, you're kidding yourself if you think a bankruptcy is bad. Try losing two jobs in six months by no fault of your own (thanks American, and Vanguard). I called my attorney and asked if there was any relief and low and behold I became an airline executive. Yep, bankruptcy. I'm not ashamed as I was living within my means with a wife and two kids. It was really nice to relieve debt and stress and I didn't lose one wink of sleep. Kept the house, two cars to boot! Oh yeah, then I used government money to get a 737 type rating. Thanks, Higher Power. They are highly recommended.

I share this information publicy to let you know that it's not always a bad thing. I have sold real estate and after two years of a BK you can requalify for home loans. Sure, you're not going to get the best rate.

One last thing . . . I have an EXCELLENT credit score now and have no problems getting credit when needed.

As I said before, I'm not ashamed and never will be.

I had the rug pulled out from under me, also. Granted, I didn't have the wife and kids, but I assure you my total monthly debt was in the neighborhood of your debt. I chose NOT to file. It was an option, and I have probably lost 3-5 years off my life from working like crazy and losing sleep to keep my credit score good. You chose to file. I chose to work like a mad man. I feel good that I did not let others pick up my slack. I'm not mad at ya, though. I have plenty of friends that chose the same path as you. It's just not the path that I would choose knowing that I'm an able bodied person.

I have a relative that filed twice and is now a financial planner. Yeah, right. I want this person planning my finances! Good luck with everything.

Tom

When we furloughees were recalled at USAirways, the company had the audacity to put out credit check forms in the first recall class.

When the company got the collective "KISS OUR ARSE" from the group and the union, the, TWICE BANKRUPT company stopped requesting such information. Credit checks were never seen again.

Shows what you can do when people stand together and SAY NO.

And the fact that companies do that to new hires, is a load of CRAP!!!!

The managers in this industry can't maintain a business without Chapter 11 bankruptcy laws, Federal Bail Out Money, and the constant, daily failures to uphold their "legal" contracts with employees. And yet they expect you to be a "Perfect Little Boy Scout" in every aspect of your life while taking their layoff and wage reduction schemes in the arse. AND they give themselves lovely bonuses after raping YOUR PAY CHECK.

They can truly "COVER MY ARSE WITH LIPSTICK"!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where does command of the English language play into your character evaluation? Might you be one of those guys who wants to designate English as the official language of the USA too...for some reason? Don't get me wrong, that's my stance as well. We all live in this glass house together.....please don't throw stones .
