You missed the part with the "We 'screwed' you because we could...but by the way, you need to not take it personally and help us get a better contract....that may or may not help your career...you know, because you're on the bottom."

Aside from that, I think you're spot on.

You also missed the part of "I am an ex TWA pilot and I will whine for the rest of my life telling everyone my sob story until they're blue in the face, and even then I'm gonna continue whining because, well, I'm owed a lot of sympathy due to the fact that I've had a miserable career at an airline that was on the verge of collapse and even though I got bought out - oops, I mean, acquired - I should have had date of hire despite the fact that my airline was one tenth the size of AA and my career expectations basically amounted to 767 CA making one third what most other airlines were paying, but that doesn't matter, (excuse me... sob sob NOSE BLOW sob) I am still owed date of hire at what was once the world's largest airline so I'm going to keep whining until you give me at least a retraction of all the mean things you said about me because that was just SO MEAN!"

Is this the sort of "professional and civilized" behavior you were referring to a few pages back?

Your post is condescending and frankly not accurate regarding the size of the airlines and the pay structures. Add to that the fact that the TWA proposal was not for date of hire and you really have stated nothing of substance.

People need to tone it down a bit on both sides of the argument. You keep making these claims of always taking the high road while lobbing in cheap shots of your own. You can't have it both ways.

Cool...I guess AA had 23,000 pilots just after the merger!

Thanks 73.

AA

Oh I know.... ONE GUY.. ED WHITE made some of the most unprofessional comments that could be made and now we are ALL judged by his comments.. Glad I haven't judged your group by the comments of one Mach8Forrest on another message board.

It's always fun to watch the APA each their young. Even more entertaining than the San Diego Zoo Monkey House. Keep it up, chimps, the rest of the industry loves it.

I agree.

It's high time to stop picking on the poor former TWA pilots and redirect the barbs at the problem where it truly belongs................those damn Eagle pilots !

Seriously......... Merry Christmas and may no management rats scurry along your baseboards in 2009.

You know what, Cipollini? You try and try to keep it civilized and you keep getting cheap shots thrown at you, so it's no wonder that you're going to get some flak from us as well. Just read the general tone of this thread from the beginning, and you'll see that we try and answer all questions in a civilized manner until YOU KNOW WHO starts provoking.

What do you expect? If you want "civilized behavior", maybe you guys should start honoring that as well. Case in point, someone asks "What are we missing?" and X Rated answers in a nicely provocative way. It is a two way street. We've demonstrated that we can act very civilized on this board over and over again. And just when it looks like we're all getting along, YOU KNOW WHO gets on and starts provoking. So shove your "civilized behavior" if you guys are not going to adhere to it as well.

Wow,
aa73, I gotta say you seem to be a bit spring loaded toward anger. If you read my post, I merely pointed out to you that your post was condescending and contained inaccuracies. I further suggested that both sides need to tone down the rhetoric. This garnered a response of - take your civilized behavior and shove it. noted

Now, as a new guy here I can't comment on your "7 years of civility" as suggested by others on the board. If that is the case, kudos. However, may I suggest that perhaps something has changed recently that is causing you to lose your ability to communicate effectively. Maybe you need to step back for a short while take a deep breath regain your composure and perspective. Seems like what I have seen here is fanning the flames and not the voice of reasonable discussion.

Judging by the last couple responses I am guessing this will not be taken in the spirit in which it was intended, so be it. I do have some experience on losing perspective. It was a long time after the aa/TWA debacle before rehashing the past did not raise my blood pressure. Realizing that I steered clear of the discussion for many years.

Maybe I do need to step back. OK, done. Yes, I do get a little upset when I try and answer questions regarding our airline and our contract, only to have some of your guys come in, change the subject, and rehash old wounds. It does no good for anyone. So that is the reason for my outbreak.

It's just irritating to read someone's post telling me to be civilized, and in the very next post another one comes in and provokes with certain comments aimed squarely at us and the actions of our union. Of course you are going to get flak with that! Nobody at AA is proud of the result of our deal - nobody - especially the hostility. But if your guys keep coming on here and keep bringing up sore subjects in a confrontational manner, you can expect similar reactions from our guys.

If you've been following my posts ever since I joined APC, you'll find that I generally stick to informational subjects on our contract, furloughs, management, and air safety stuff (I'm a huge follower of NTSB reports.) I';ve always had a reputation of being fair and objective in my posts, seeing both sides of any story. But I admit that I occasionally fall prey to emotional subjects, just like anyone else here.

My point is that we should not engage in provocative behavior when dealing with sensitive subjects - otherwise, it's always going to come from both sides.

Happy holidays.
