Good luck with that.
Again, just can't seem to mind your own business. Please explain how anyone at Jetblue voted or didn't vote in their election for their own in-house union is any of your business at all?

But the pay raises are much slower and there is a cap at the end of 20 years of only $70,000 per year. Master's degrees at good to better schools will cost you between $40,000 and $60,000. That's after the four year degree as well.

I'm not promoting the profession. I'm just asking questions. A starting Paramedic or Fire Fighter in NYC gets paid an average of only $40,000 per year. While you may fly hundreds of people per day, a paramedic is asked to save lives every day. A paramedic will be called upon to save lives infinitely more times in their career than you will in yours. So why don't you go promote their profession?

If we're going to start arguing that we deserve higher pay then I don't think we can just compare to others in the same profession. Some jobs out there frankly are more important than being a pilot and they too prove their worth every day.
Fire fighters do great work. However, you can land that job with a highschool diploma. It takes an ATP, years of prior experience "in the profession", as well as a 4 year degree to land a job at the majors.

Interestingly enough, the median starting salary for MBA's in 2008 was $108,000.

I don't think we can compare apples and oranges. Pilots need to look within the industry. Obviously, industry average pay is a good place to start.

I think if any firm, in any industry, pays their employees less than industry average, it constitutes a failure to invest in employees and in my opinion, a failure on the part of management.

Isn't teaching widely held to be among the most underpaid jobs in the country?

Jay, not in chicago suburbs where we have some gym teachers that make over $100,000 per year and admin tops out at $400,000 plus per year. Don't know the rest of country.

Great!

The previous poster quoted $37,000 to $70,000 as a comparison for our industry. I always felt most teachers were underpaid so I'd rather not use them as a comparison for what we should be paid.

But sure,

start FO's at $100,000 and cheif pilots top out at $400,000? I'd go for that.

Herk, Why don't you just go ahead an resign. You have done nothing but complain about our company for days on this forum. Your obviously not gonna be happy. Even if the union had passed I think you would still have plenty to whine about.

In any case, Auburn, I'd like to thank you for your approach and demeanor at the forums. I'd guess three or four users have been banned during the Jetblue vote, on both sides of the issue, for their inability to converse in a respectable manner. Thanks for keeping it "above the belt" over the last couple of months.
Thank my southern upbringing! Emotions continue to run high a week after the election results were announced, and though I was part of the 67% who abstained (voted NO), I am not jumping for joy as if I was part of the winning team. There are clearly some glaring issues that need to be addressed yesterday, and I remain optimistic Dave and our other leaders will take action. I think they finally "get it" and realize the results will be different the next time if they maintain the status quo. I might very well be singing a different tune over the next 12 months if improvements aren't made. I do not, however, expect all of our concerns to be addressed overnight, and hope my fellow pilots remain realistic with their expectations.

In any case, thanks for the kind words. I refuse to make this personal and publically villify individuals for standing by their convictions on either side of the debate. There is no need for that kind of school-yard bully behavior. We all need to move on and continue to work together harmoniously.

Give it about 11.5 months. You might see a few scraps from the table

What makes you think that they actually "get it"? Because Dave said so?

Why didn't they get it after PCG1, PCG2, and the PCRB reports?

How many chances do you give them before you realize they will do whatever it takes to please just 50% +1?

And, is there an ALPA, or other union drive at this time. Mike and Bill spent well over a year to get us to a vote.

God help us all.
