Just wondering if this is an Airbus issue or something to do with JB procedures? Today on my flight JB cost everyone else about 5 minutes of gas. This could be huge if this happens on a regular basis as the heavies are really burning Dinosaurs sitting at idle.

Just wondering.....
I was in the same line FreeBird, you must've joined the tower freq a few seconds too late or you would've heard the deal.

They were doing the two lines on two taxiways for takeoff thing.(one full of shut down airplanes and one moving, for those that haven't had the pleasure).

The JB guys were #1 in the "shutdown" line, with about 4-5 planes to go in the "moving" line. All of a sudden, tower says that they want JB out on the runway next. Might've been a sequecing thing with the heavies, or a departure fix thing, enroute spacing, whatever it was, they kinda sprung it on these guys and they were caught with their pants down thinking that they were still about number 5.

JB tells them that they need the 5 minutes and tower says "whatever" you guys are going next. We would've been caught just the same if we were #1 and they pulled it on us. Well maybe not, we had GE's and could've been cranked in about 2 seconds and they were both already warm.

Anyways, that's what happened.

not so often in jfk simply because the taxi is so long, but in some other airports it seems as if they are waiting for fedex to deliver the WB.

"Maybe" some passenger had to crap their pants in the back?

Those who live in glass houses sink ships!
I commute on JB a lot to JFK and never saw this problem, unless somewone got up in back. Oh, but in PHL I have sat in the JS on a few USAir planes that had to wait for the WB numbers.

It's JFK, roll with it and stop being in such a rush.

Wait, so how do you guys get your numbers? Don't you compute them? I enter how many bags (and what kind of bags, STD, HVY or Carry On), how many passengers in each zone, how much takeoff fuel I will have and then I send that via ACARS and it just spits out all my numbers right there. The ramp brings me a bag sheet, the flight attendant gives me her count and we verify that with the gate agent and/or ramp to make sure everyone has the count right. Now, this is regional flying - but I'm curious as to how the majors do it. I've never seen a FA bring a 767 captain a "count" of the passengers and a breakdown of where they are sitting, and I sure as hell have never seen an F/O break out a whiz wheel. haha

Thanks man. Thats only 3 checklists and an engine start I have to get done while in position on the runway.
Or 5 miles and 5 miles normally happens in about 1:30... Atleast right seat of the 88 doesn't have much going on though...

Well it is easy... The computer knows where the pax are sitting, the ramp scans the bags as they load the bag and which cargo bin it is in, FOB is the release fuel. Chime on the ACARS and all your TO numbers for the runway you want are right there for you. All this info is there for your RJ flight too, but most regional are too cheap to turn it on and get FAA approval. I do think American Eagle gets their w/b over the acars with no load manifests. Thats what it looked like in the JS last month in DFW.

You're working too hard dude. I just put in the take-off runway. The load data prints on it's own, but sadly I have to press a few buttons to get the performance data to print out.

Me too!
I was in BOS last week and we were taxiing. A JetBlue Airbus that had just pushed and was calling for taxi said they "need to go somewhere for a full alignment 10 minutes" I raised my eyebrows, but hey weirder stuff than that happens at AA. I was pretty sure it wasn't a maint taxi, since they were using a flt #.
Also an AApology here, in the hotel van there was a real nice JB CA from FLL. I was trying to chat with him as we had common friends, but my CA whom cannot shut up and claims to know everything and knows everyone
for that I AApologize (not for him) but that we didn't get to talk.

Yeah, I missed that part. The Kennedy guys are usually good about that, but it happens.

Thanks
