Last year they continued hiring FAs as we scrambled to avoid sending "500" pilots to the street. We ended up tossing 147 pilots to the curb. Now here we are a year later and when this whole new furlough thing started to unfold it was made clear early on that "NO flight attendant furloughs" were going to occur. Now we have a system bid that chops EWR 737 and sends a majority of the leftovers to IAH. And what of the EWR FA's? Nothing.
This reaks of Status Quo violation.
Boneman, Have you personally actually inquired about that to Pierce?

Express for now but look for major ramp up and hub IAD. EWR pull down and IAH increase a bluff. IAD hub and base soon...UAL feed to Intl. Bye bye UAL domestic and those crummy Airbus's
I told u so...

Trying to compare flight attendant staffing to pilot staffing has about as much relevance as my golf game compared to Tiger Woods game. Flight attendants will take far more leaves then pilots and drop trips more often. Many flight attendants are moms who would prefer to stay at home if they can keep their seniority number while their children are young. In addition how block hours are allocated makes a difference. You could cut back 30 Narrow body aircraft and add block hours for 15 wide body aircraft and you lose a lot of pilot jobs. You might not lose any flight attendant jobs. Historically airlines can often manage excess flight attendants via LOA's and trip drops. It rarely works for pilots. You will get a few to take leaves but nowhere near what the flight attendants will take.

Maybe we would take more leaves if we were offered something other than 1.5 year leaves. FA's had Many options that fell under the year mark. LOAs for pilots are all 18 months in duration. Still a screwjob as far as the shift from ewr to iah. I agree with what you are saying but only to a point.
Flight attendant leaves do not involve for the most part training issues. Pilots leaves involve huge training issues hence the need for longer leave periods. You could get around this by allowing the company to target the leaves to specific pilots in specific category and seat positions at their discretion. That however would have many other pilots screaming that it is unfair. Again trying in any way shape or form to compare flight attendants to pilots is pointless. A flight attendant can be removed from any portion of the seniority list on a leave. That does not apply to pilots since we are trained seat and category specific and overages may or may not exist in all seats and categories.
