Delta Pilots Association

Hey Einstein, so you want to discuss "equalizing elements?" If you are going to bring up the possible future bankruptcy of the PBGC and social security, which has never happened, you have to acknowledge airline insolvency, which has happened multiple times recently, as part of the equation. Since they are both doomed to fail in your world, the only thing that matters is money in your pocket today. By that standard, you have to acknowledge the great good that came from a $650m note and the cash that put into the pilots retirement plans in their own name, as well as the the hundreds of millions that have come from the DC plan and 401k.
You ought to be cheering the termination of a promise of a pension in exchange for establishment of a DC plan and a $650m note. Since it is far more secure than relying on the solvency of an airlines pension plan.
I mean to be consistent, you wouldn't want to have an airline DB plan, you'd rather have cash today and a DC plan. Right?

Yer all freaking nuts... Check out the fiasco that is US Airline Pilots Association. Been on the property almost three years. Organizers promised at industry standard contract in three months. Didn't happen. Promised a DOH list...didn't happen. Been sued..lost. Then overturned, not on merits but because the DOH list has not been implemented yet. Just wait n see there.
APA just hired ALPA to help negotiate. Why? Cause that's what they do and they are the best. Their economic and financial analysis department (EFA) is without peer in the airline business. If management says a pilot proposal cost $2 million and EFA says it costs $1 million guess what, it cost $1 million and EVERYBODY knows it. Clowns at usapa have a one man band trying to out duel Phoenix. It's a joke.
So all you hairy chested "just say no" types might want to cool your jets a while. APA has been in mediation for four years and the mediator just recessed them till some time in 2011! USAPA has been trying to negotiate a merged contract for 2 and a half years with no results. DAL/NWA just got a good deal. Ditto for Spirit and AirTran. Cool your jets. THINK. And watch how it works out elsewhere.

It comes down to LGA, loaded, hot day and that engine shells at a hair under V1. Steel brakes that warp under normal use or carbon brakes that will bring you to a dead stop in 1,600 feet. If you make the go decision it's 2.5 to 3:1 weight/power ratio on the bus, 6:1 on the 9. I'll take the FADEC over limping along with a 40 year old JT8D, managing remaining fate by +- 10 kts. I really appreciated knowing that a good aircraft can get you away from the ground really quick when SHTF....
Hehe..most of the time I am sitting in an airbus munching away food from the tray table thinking.... glad I am not on the 9. But 9 is a nice plane too...just wish the dang thing had tray tables up-front...and FMS and GPS and LNAV and VNAV and auto-throttles and ...hehe

I agree that the bus has all the bells and whistles that the DC-9 doesn't. Electronic displays, tray tables, powerful engines, roomy cockpit, etc.
But, there are still times I like being in my DC-9 and would take it over the 320.
1.) Crosswind landings.
2.) ATC assigned runway changes
3.) When I'm riding in the 320 and the engines spool up or down abruptly for no reason at all. (What is that?)
4.) Tight approaches.
And freightguy, the DC-9 does have two tray tables: the Aircraft Logbook and the Cabin (Flight Attendant) Logbook.

1.) It's a plane crosswind landings are no different
2.) Runway changes aren't bad once you run the box a few times
3.) This is normally due to the way the pilots are inputting data (not always though
)4.) OK you win this one

Convert Dec 1st, cant wait.
No disrespect to the 9, I enjoy having a map on my knee and constantly turning the knob to stay on track. I also enjoy setting my drink in the holder and watching the orange splash as glycol goes everywhere, the loud whistle that begins at rotation and does not mellow til FL210, the short legs and trying to get to the gate before I pee my pants. It will certainly give me bragging rights when the time comes.
