I just got this in an email today. I don't know why it reminds me of ALPA, but it just does...

For those wondering about the number of DPA members to date... According to their web site, the tally currently stands at 1500. Looks like DTW has the most followed by ATL, MSP, and NYC. Here's a link to the page: DPA News

Sorry guys, couldn't resist!

I do hope that DALPA does notice the disconnect and continues to take steps to correct our course by making sure that the voices of Delta Pilots are heard loud and clear over any ALPA Nat'l. or mgt. talking points. For all of our sakes, I hope this effort is not dismissed as a "few malcontents".

(I do think there has been a sea change at the MEC level with all the new reps being elected, here's to supporting their efforts.)

Hey don't shoot the messenger! I just report. You decide.

BTW, I agree with you and hope that DALPA changes it's current (well, hopefully not current now but definitely at least recent past) practice of labeling anyone who disagrees as "a few malcontents." To get even 1500 pilots who are so disenfranchised with ALPA that they would want to start all over with completely new representation is very significant and speaks volumes, IMO. I hope this, at the very least, has been a "wakeup call."

Here we go with more of that hopey changey crap.... and we all know how well it is working out now The only difference being that the federal level came from a different party instead of the same one. Probably not much difference though... It will settle in to the cigars and big parties before we all know it...

1500 only represents those that actually sent in cards... I can guarantee you that the number of dissatisfied customers is much much higher.

Does ACL get to be a dissatisfied customer too(albeit one who wants to guide change from the inside)?!!!

I suppose, but because he is wired in he gets to be less dissatisfied than most of the rest of us... His concerns probably get heard and actually listened to..

Hey, if alpa actually changes, I will be the first to step up to the plate and eat crow... but you and I both know it ain't gonna happen...

Insanity: Doing the same thing..... you know how it goes

(I quoted you so at least you cannot complain about that)

If I am as you say I am; engaged, it is because I work on being engaged and informed. Yes, it is work, and yes, it takes my personal time and effort. Do my concerns get more credence? No, the resolution and survey process are for that. I do get to debate the facts with some of the decision makers, and that is something anyone can do. What it takes is once again, time and effort on each pilots part, to do the research, arm themselves with the facts, and present a reasoned based case.

Trust me sometimes the facts are inconvenient, but they are the facts.

As for ALPA changing. If true lasting change is to come to ANY organization, it needs to start with the bottom and work its way up. It starts with each line pilot not being apathetic, demanding results and two way communication from their reps. It then in turn needs to come from the reps demanding that their pilots agenda be the agenda of their MEC. (Happens a lot) and then demanding that their MEC put forth their pilots demands at the National level.

Talking about this on a web board is good for the soul and takes minimal time. It is quite another to make the time commitment to stay engaged and force an issue or issues. If even 40% of this group was involved on a day in and day out bases the results would be staggering. Instead we have a lot less than that, and many wonder why their concerns are not the majority position.

*Last note. Whether or not I am dissatisfied or not is irrelevant, what is relevant is that I make sure my position is heard, and I give (most time) fact base reasoning for my position. As with everything if better facts are presented I can and will change my position.

The end goal is not my agenda that goes forward, but the agenda of the Delta Pilot's. When that happens we are successful, but for that to happen, pilots first need to be engaged.
