Speeding Tickets . . .

I got two tickets in the same week - both on I-10 between no-mans land and no-man's land in west Tx....I now drive a few miles below the speed limit everywhere...I did't like the increased insurance premium one bit...

No DUIs...No record at all - I was arrested once for tresspassing as a teenager in 1989. No charges / nothing- cops did it more to scare me straight than anything. Glad they did...I'll put it down on the application if asked along with the two tickets...Don't think it should be a problem...

Wouldn't worry about it at all. My speeding ticket list is extensive (7 in 2 years). Just tell them why, etc. You know the drill. If you are an excellent candidate, they are not going to send you home based on speeding tix. Believe it or not, good pilots still get hired with DUI's. (1 in your lifetime is acceptable, 2? then worry).
Get hired by SWA and go fly. Have fun!!!

Skiutah, I do have the type rating. Don't sweat the cost, if you are serious about SWA that is, think about it as your higher education. I was hung up on the money for a little while, but then I realized it's costing a small fortune to put my wife through law school, so if you look at the cost in terms of follow on education it's not so bad. Of course I could be singing a different tune if I don't make the cut. Hope it all works out for you.

1) SWA was your first choice.
2) You obviously failed that interview.
3) If SWA wouldn't hire you, why should XYZ airline?
4) If they do hire you, how long before you quit to go work for your dream company (SWA)?
I won't get the type until it is obviously my last resort.

I have to completely disagree with you Rick, I am by no means an expert, but I have many friends who have the type rating and were subsequently hired by UPS, FedEx, Airtran, JetBlue, and Continental after both successful and unsuccessful interviews with SWA. It may be different depending on what your background is, but I can tell you that the standard for the military instructors I work with is to go get the type with the ATP. Of course that only makes sense if you want to fly for SWA, so I guess it depends on where your priorities are. Just my two cents.

Those SWA buggers love to fly slow at altitude and fast at low altitude. I always had to slow from about .87 to .76 when in trail with a SWA 737 to which sometimes I thought was a citation in disguise. So practiced my slow flying techniques on final in my 727. I LUVED flying at minimum approach speed from about 10 to 15 miles out with a SWA on my tail, provided no other traffic was in the pattern. And remember you should never taxi at a speed greater than a brisk walking pace... especially with a SWA on your tail... afterall you don't want to be rear ended by a tailgater if you should have to come to a sudden stop
.Alas those good old days are gone. Now I am on the -800... no more .87 cruise and higher approach speeds too.
