Delta asks pilots to "hawk" Credit cards

Bravo.
Its all very good points.
This mailer was absolutely perplexing to say the least. I mean, if you want pilots to make money, as in become more profitable, maybe listen to the calls to upgrade the ACARS units to at least NWA standards if not better so that we can start pinpointing operational flaws that cause us to go OUT late? Therein substantially improving flight operations and everything financial that comes with that.
But really by last count, didn't we make like $22.258 billion dollars last year by flying the airplanes around which helped earn the $1.7 billion dollar operating profit? Of which, with the 2005 paycuts the pilots gave up like $1.08Bish in pay in 2010? We make lots of money as is.
It's not to be disparaging but you know flying with the guy who makes awfully embarrassing PA's but it only takes 1 person to say "loved your announcements!" to encourage it to continue despite the rest of the passengers hating it. I'm going to assume that the near Lawrence Taylor verbal sacks the skymiles folks put on passengers in the corridors will continue until its not profitable. Should be a better way to do this though.

Still if anyone is looking for a credit card, and would like to earn miles on what is now the world's largest airline, please let me know. I'll be happy to tell you all about the Delta Skymiles Card. For instance, did you know you get 25,000 bonus miles after your first purchase! Or how about that extraordinarily annoying $95 annual fee... GONE! For the first year! Just ask me if you're interested. But not any of these other pilots who don't want to help you get 25,000 bonus miles after your first purchase or save $95 on your first years really truly overpriced American Express fee!
I was not surprised when Delta hired sales people and put them in the airports to try to sell the credit cards. Naturally, passengers ignored the sales people and went on their way. So I wasn't that surprised when the "sales people" had to became loud, obnoxious, and more agressive with passengers trying to sell the cards. In the last few months, the obnoxious agressive sales people are starting to borderline harrassment, and it makes Delta look desperate, and very unprofessional. But again, it is just some person in the airport trying to make a paycheck, so while it is embarrassing, I was not surprised.
But I am shocked that Delta is trying to get their pilots to sell their cards. Totally did not see that one coming. Did the letter require pilots to wear their hats and double breasted jackets so you don't look so unprofessional while selling the cards? What a slap in the face.

But, ftb... I don't want to pay the fee, and also I do not want to pay in full at the end of the month.
Please answer me this!!! (reference "answers to common questions").

And on the ACARS... I know you and I talked about this the other day, but for the "record" on here, I still can't believe Delta didn't already track that stuff. I knew on the pilot side we didn't put in delay reasons, but never really knew why. Is this an airline or a flying club? Not like any of that stuff is rocket science... I just assumed they tracked it because it's just logical. No wonder this D0 thing is like they are trying to reinvent the airplane.

But for those of you who weren't here back then, we had a program called "Operation Clockwork", which included the pilots submitting delay codes via ACARS. They made a really big deal about this program when it was rolled out company wide and, at one point, a large percentage of our pilots were sending in the codes. The problem was that, after the huge fanfare with the rollout of "Operation Clockwork", they kept emphasizing it for a while and then we never heard another word about it. The whole program just seemed to fall by the wayside. A few of us kept putting in the delay codes (because we were never told to stop and it was still in the Vol 1). I even called one of the Flt Ops higherups to see if they still wanted these codes via ACARS and was told they did. A few months later, we finally got a memo telling us that they were discontinuing the pilot submitted delay codes. This was at least a couple of years after the initial rollout of "Operation Clockwork" (also known as "Operation A Clockwork Orange"
). I've seen this with several different things since I've been at Delta... we have the "initiative du jour" and then they move on to something else.

The incentive prizes are actually pretty good... sign up 20 people and you can get 200,000 skymiles, a 55" sony lcd tv or a disney vacation package. They must make some serious bucks off of these cards.
For those on here thinking this went out to just pilots. Come on, we're just bus drivers... we aren't that special in the Kremlin's eyes. Notice on the first page it says "TO: US-Based Delta Employees." it would be absurd if it was only us. Kind of reminds me of a magazine sale or something in grade school.

Good morning folks, this is the captain speaking. I have a great offer on Delta Skymiles cards. Just a soon as we get 5 new members, I'll be glad to get us underway. And always, thanks for choosing Delta.

Since the BK and merger, there are new people in charge, who are reinventing the wheel. Keep in mind, Marketing is the dept that controls what happens at this airline, Flt Ops is just a support division.
