Delta asks pilots to "hawk" Credit cards

I think the only right thing to do would be to spend your overnights passing out applications in your hotel lobby. In uniform.
If the hotel complains, tell them to take it up with Delta management.
If the hotel threatens to throw you out, remind them that Delta pays for your room.
And just like selling Girl Scout Cookies in front of WalMart, you can coordinate with your crew and other Delta crews in the hotel to guarantee 24/7 coverage and still get your FAA recommended 5 hours of sleep.
That would get the point across to those that need to learn.

Hell, has anyone heard the FA's sales pitch. On my flights too and from training they'd go on a 5 minute pitch about how great the card is and then go down all the rows asking everyone if they were interested. Its getting insane

While reading through the thread, there were 4 page ads for different rewards cards, not including the examples from each of you guys :-)
I do find it a bit interesting that the f/a's give more emphasis to the sales pitches than the safety briefings - guess we know what's truly important to mgmnt.
On the earlier note on flight ops being a support role to marketing, it's happening everywhere. I work at a very small nonprofit, and we just hired a marketing director at a higher rate than everyone but the CEO. I always thought our services should sell themselves (and therefore pay the people responsible for providing those services accordingly), but it seems managers everywhere are drinking the same kool-aid.
Oh well. Off my soap-box now, maybe if I drink some kool-aid everything will feel better

Note to management: The going rate for voicing a 30 second commercial is around $180, depending on the market. No pay, no PA.

I worked for American Express for few years and the DELTA SKYMILES Credit card was one of the cards I had to service. Those that HELD the DL card were the most rudest, pompass group I had ever spoke with. If they missed the due date and were charged a finance fee they pitched a B I T C H. AmEx rule was you could have one late payment waived per year. Many did not want to make a phone payment or online. So many card holders are still mailing in a payment. So if the mail service does not get it there they complain. I would not SOLICIT for an AMEX card under any conditions PERIOD. AMEX has so many call centers in INDIA it really P I S S E E S off the members. AMEX just closed one of their biggest call centers in GSO. So I am sure the calls are going to INDIA BIG TIME.

You get that plus some sweet swag depending on the number of apps. If you sign up 1 person you can get an iPod nano and if you get 10 people you get an I-Pad. Lots of jewlery and vacation stuff also. The FA's I've talked to are more interested in the Tiffany jewlery gifts than the $50 per application. One FA said she was making more from the card promotion than she was in wages.
