Air Tran 717's reported to go to Delta
#21
I found this on twitter tonight also:
Until they are painted, boarded with DAL ticketed passengers, and DAL pilots are in the cockpit, being pushed back from a DAL gate it is all just a rumor.
I refuse to salivate over the airframes/jobs of fellow airline pilots.
If it were to occur that DAL is in the process of acquiring the 717's, my hope is that the AT pilots either get to the SWA 737's faster(without furlough) or the proportional number of AT pilots have the chance to come with the planes in some fashion.

As to the part about AT pilots and furloughs. If this resulted in furloughs, oh man, that would be the biggest mess the pilot industry has probably ever seen and that's saying something.
I'd think that IF all of this is true then I bet we did get those 20-25 717s in the desert that disappeared the week of our 739 announcement. And if so, those could come in first while SWA phases out the 717 over time. It doesn't have to be an immediate transfer and could, hopefully, be done with a 1:1 replacement with a new 737.
Wikipedia says SWA has 190 737-700s, 72 737-800s and 150 737-Max's on firm order. That far exceeds the 86ish 717s.
that's a hunch.

Isn't the 737 assembly line maxed? Could Boeing pump out enough FLUFs to replace the Classics and departure of the 717s that quickly? I doubt it.
Either way DLA boys....don't feel too guilty if this causes furloughs. It wouldn't be your fault. You'd still be more honorable than our new Overlords and their recent actions.

Maybe. MAYBE. SWA wants to use their immediate future deliveries to replace the Classics (approximately 160ish left). I think it depends on how fast the transfer of 717s would occur.

And here's a big "hope you guys don't get screwed even more" for the Trannies.

What would be interesting is if the AT pilots were given an opportunity to go with their 717s to Delta or to stay with SWA. Any rumor to that effect?
Wonder how many would bid SWA and how many would bid Delta? (Take Door number 2 or the box by Carrol Merrill...)

Besides I think SWA has done enough for their future culture than to bother with dropping another nuke with massive furloughs just to prove they can do it.
