No way. Forget about it. There is no way we need to open our list up for sport bidding and eat even more stagnation. About 20 of the 717's (even IF this ends up happening) would clearly be DC-9 replacements and its also been strongly rumored previously that at least some DL 737's would go to SWA in the deal: likely orders and possibly even some already flying for DL right now. We all know DL pilots won't get to sport bid onto the SWA list.
from Wikipedia:
Current operators
In December 2011, 134 Boeing 717-200s were in airline service:[27]
Australia Cobham Aviation Services Australia (formerly National Jet) (11 + 2 on order)[28] - operated for QantasLink
Finland Blue1 (9)[27]
Spain Volotea (1 + 2 on order)[29]
Turkmenistan Turkmenistan Airlines (7)[27]
United States Southwest Airlines (88)[27]
Hawaiian Airlines (18 + 2 on order)[27][30]
The 21 remaining aircraft are stored at Victorville Airport with 6 being prepared to re-enter airline service.
[edit] Former operators
Australia Impulse Airlines (7) – later acquired by Qantas.
Jetstar Airways (14) – dry leased from Air Connect and were later transferred back when Jetstar Airways received A320s.
Spain Aerolíneas de Baleares (5)
Spanair (4)[27]
Greece Olympic Airlines (3)
Mexico MexicanaClick (19)[31]
Thailand Bangkok Airways
United States Trans World Airlines – 50 ordered with 30 delivered, aircraft later acquired by American Airlines but sold to AirTran Airways (no. 773-799 AirTran ships are former TWA).
American Airlines (28)
Midwest Airlines (25)[32]
AirTran Airways (88) - Ceased all flights after the merger with Southwest Airlines was completed on March 1, 2012.

Just to be fair, if, in the (IMO) extremely unlikely event that all the 717's go to DL instantly and are not replaced at SWA, then we should work to bring pilots over in a fair manner. I just don't think that's how it would happen even if DL ends up with the airframes. I think Boeing, who is who the leases would be done through anyway most likely, would be more than willing and able to feed SWA new 737's including orders from DL as well as likely some directly from DL anyway.

How could they all come over at once? All 88? That would dismantle a lot of SWA's new ATL hub immediately. I would think if it happened that it would be in a phased in approach. As far as trading planes in to SWA, some of the 10 737-700s could go, and there are a bunch of Malev 737s sitting in Europe after their recent Bankruptcy. There are probably a lot of them on the market right now, all at low lease rates.
All this is moot (mute?) anyway if this is in any way tied to another scope sale. Its time to turn the scope check valve around. Status quo is insufficient.

Agreed. Even the bottleneck for painting and modding the interiors as well as inspecting and transferring them, setting up a training program, etc would mean some sort of a transition period that I'd guess would in the 1 to 2 year range or more.
