Get 1000 TPIC first, THEN become an instructor/LCA.

Most places require a minimum of 1000 TPIC right? Keep in mind there are 1000's of regional CA's with a lot more than the minimum, who are trying to get out.

While being a SIM instructor will give you something to add to your resume, it doesn't really help you if you don't meet the minimum qualifications.

Not all places require 1000 TPIC (Delta, United, Spirit, Virgin), however everywhere prefers Instructor/CA.

disclaimer: There are a few places that require the 1000 TPIC, Southwest and Fedex come to mind.

Dont know the answer, hence the poll

The magic number for the moment in the airline hiring world is 1000 TPIC. That's your primary objective. All that other cool **** (training department / ass. chief / what have you) is very nice to have, but it's not the first line on your CV. It's your secondary objective.

Your poll question says it all. Get the 1000 first, then do whatever you please.

For here and now in this environment, there is NOTHING magical about 1000 TPIC. All it does is allow one to fill out certain applications.

After having said 1000 TPIC to fill out certain apps, the "magic" doesn't happen till things get added to the resume/app like sim inst., LCA, IP, Stand eval/NATOPs, assistant cheif pilot, COMBINED with the standard internal recs/sponsors.

Again, that's here and now in the current hiring environment.

I know, I know, EVERYBODY has the "well I know someone that got hired at (insert airline here) with 1000 PIC and didn't know anyone" story. And that's great for them, it happens. But those people are in a minority. Again, in this environment/hiring situation.

Yes those are minimum qualifications, not necessarily the competitive qualifications (doesn't apply to females and special people. I won't use that 'card'). There are many CA's with 1000's of TPIC who aren't getting interviews. Its a very tough market right now.

The instructor position they prefer is probably Line Check Airmen experience.

I'm assuming by instructor your talking about a SIM instructor.
