There was also a small (200ish) round in summer 2010.

United hires based on connections.

I'm just not seeing evidence that a masters matters.
I hear this about United all the time and have yet to figure out where it comes from. I got hired without any connections and most of the guys I went through training with are similar. The most connected I am is 3 recs from 73 FOs. If that's your definition then I stand corrected. I like to think it was 1,000+ hrs of single seat IP/EP time, DO, Safety, etc.

next year is when I think the bottleneck finally clears up. I think everyone with pic is eventually gonna get hired. The key here is understanding that it takes time. The best thing you can have out there is ip/ep/chk amn. The 2nd best is TPIC. And of course, a strong connection, job fair, meeting a chief pilot, etc, is the trump card.

i think its fair to say we can be optimistic about the future. It looks bright!
I keep reminding myself of that. I've personally got about 1240 IP/EP hours (out of 3350 total with 2000 TPIC), have a masters degree, and have been a chief of safety/flight safety a few times in my career but so far nothing from any of the airlines I've applied to. I'm headed to Dallas Thursday to visit with Spirit. That will be my first interaction with any of the industry HR people.

Here's to hoping we all get our shot in the next year or so.

Well I stand corrected. Nice run of planes though. And I'm assuming a serious chunk of PIC. I think it'll work out.

Worry not asupilot. I am not an IP or check airman or none of the above. What got me the interview was my heavy international flight time, an aerospace engineering degree, meeting Arnie at a job fair, the NIFA community, and my GPA. Period, end of story, khalas. I know that for a fact. I sincerely believe that Delta is ferociously looking for diversity in their pilots. So stating that one must be A. or B. or C. is underestimating the true diverse nature of what they are looking for. It is competitive, yes, but you are more than qualified. Just put yourself out there, and build your own luck. You do that flying your B-1B anyway so...

Im not sure diversity is the right term. Delta is certainly not diverse. Theyre looking for certain favorable characteristics

Exactly. Seeing how much they value "ip/EP" time I think I made the wrong career choices. Went regionals at 21 and then UPT after...no IP, no EP. But a lot of good quality hours as a regional FO, ACMI FO, and heavy mil pilots.... Still no Ip/EP though.... And it's no where close...not for me as a reservist, our upgrade is not fast and furious like AD, but I would think the diversity of experience would help..... It seems like there are a LOT of AD guys out there looking for jobs. Guess I'll keep plugging along. They will get to my kind eventually!
