As for the masters degree, I think its pretty much not even looked at. Practically every air force pilot at the rank of major and above has one now. My Arizona State MBA is not scoring me any points. Ive even considered removing it from my application. At job fairs they gloss over the education part and go straight to IP/EP/Check Airman experience.
Really? I hate to drift this thread from being succinct posts about hiring news, but I have been thinking about getting my master's degree.

That's quite an accusation. If DAL is NOT "diverse" as you say, why haven't we been sued by the ACLU? Seems like a slam dunk if what you say is true.

Isn't the ACLU more the reason that current industries like aviation are overly diverse on every characteristic EXCEPT being the best pilot for the job?

I think if you'll read the last several pages of the thread, what he was referring to is a perception that Delta values IP/EP time over all other characteristics/resume items (such as a masters degree) when it comes to hiring ex-military folks.

Diversity can be a loaded term.

A side question on education, I have technical degrees and decent GPAs, but why in the world would Delta care how I did in school 20 years ago?

Now you have for the first time in history, literally thousands of instructors, evaluators, and checkairmen, competing for hundreds of jobs. Its still a tight market for a while.

next year is when I think the bottleneck finally clears up. I think everyone with pic is eventually gonna get hired. The key here is understanding that it takes time. The best thing you can have out there is ip/ep/chk amn. The 2nd best is TPIC. And of course, a strong connection, job fair, meeting a chief pilot, etc, is the trump card.

i think its fair to say we can be optimistic about the future. It looks bright!
I keep reminding myself of that. I've personally got about 1240 IP/EP hours (out of 3350 total with 2000 TPIC), have a masters degree, and have been a chief of safety/flight safety a few times in my career but so far nothing from any of the airlines I've applied to. I'm headed to Dallas Thursday to visit with Spirit. That will be my first interaction with any of the industry HR people.

Here's to hoping we all get our shot in the next year or so.
I'll be there as well. If I run into you I'll buy the beer after. Good luck

- Lowly regional CA w/check airman and nothing but crickets! Ha!

Good luck at the Spirit job fair, seems to be the ticket for a lot of folks (including me).

Exactly. I think breadth of experience is is what they're looking for. In that respect, they're not really diverse. The conversation about women and minorities, well we can save that for another thread.

Hired from a Delta feeder to USAirways April 2013.
12 Years 121 EXP, CRJ type ride with in the year, 4 year non aviation degree, 6000+Hrs. 0 letters of Rec.
Highly recommend Emerald Coast Consulting.
After a dozen year at the regional it was well worth the Fee and time to have these guys prep me. Even if you just get the audio tapes it will be a tremendous help getting you ready. Getting the interview is the hard part.
The interviewers want to hire you make it easy on them by being well rehearsed with plenty of tell me a time that , what would you do if answers ready to go.

Default Stop it with the women and minorities crap

You guys, Delta does not hire pilots on any type of quota. Period. We were told that the day of our interview by AK himself. We were at that interview table because we were qualified, for no other reason. So stop it with the B'ing and moaning about being a female or minority in the ranks at Delta. Start figuring out other more creative ways to get yourself an interview. I worked my freaking ass off to be here, I get sick of listening to the cry babies.
